Prince William harbored concerns that Meghan Markle had no intention of staying with the Royal Family long-term, according to new claims.<\/p>\n
In the months leading up to Prince Harry<\/a> and Meghan’s May 2018 nuptials, the Prince of Wales reportedly grew increasingly wary of his future sister-in-law.<\/a><\/p>\n Royal author Phil Dampier explained<\/a>: “She saw it as a stepping stone, getting married to Harry and to new fame and fortune. And I think that’s what initially Prince William was concerned about. And that’s why they fell out. And now, we are where we are. But to have this confirmed by somebody so close to the Queen is really dynamic.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Mr Dampier referenced the late Queen’s cousin and closest confidante, Lady Elizabeth Anson, suggesting even Her Majesty had reservations about Meghan’s motives. Lady Elizabeth allegedly told Royal author Sally Bedell Smith, as reported in the Daily Mail: “I don’t trust Meghan an inch. Meghan could turn into nothing but trouble.”<\/p>\n She also expressed skepticism about the former actress, stating: “We hope but don’t quite think she is in love. We think she engineered it all.”, reports the Express.<\/a><\/p>\n William reportedly urged his younger brother to proceed cautiously in his romance with Meghan before their marriage, expressing concerns about the relationship’s rapid progression. In January 2023, Harry claimed William advised him to slow down in his autobiography Spare, noting: “It’s too fast, he’d told me. Too soon. In fact, he’d actually been pretty discouraging about my even dating Meg.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In his writings, he recalls: “One day, sitting together in his garden, he’d predicted a host of difficulties I could expect if I hooked up with an ‘American actress’, a phrase he always managed to make sound like a ‘convicted felon’.”<\/p>\n Despite the apprehensions of his family, Prince Harry popped the question to Meghan in November 2018, just over a year after their initial meeting and the start of their relationship.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In his book, Spare, the Prince penned: “We both wanted to start a family straightaway. We were working crazy hours, our jobs were demanding, the timing wasn’t ideal, but too bad. This had always been our main priority.”<\/p>\n The Royal couple tied the knot at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018.<\/p>\n
