The most enduring comedy conspiracy theory is probably \u201c<\/span>Andy Kaufman<\/span><\/a> faked his death as an elaborate prank.\u201d If that one is true, give Kaufman credit for committing to the bit \u2014 he\u2019s had more than 40 years to reappear and yell \u201cGotcha!\u201d But considering Kaufman would be 76 by now, perhaps we can lay that one to rest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another belief that\u2019s so crazy that it must be true<\/i>? How about the story that made the rounds in the 2010s that liberal comedian\u00a0<\/span>Bill Hicks<\/span><\/a> faked his death so that he could resurface as far-right troublemaker\u00a0<\/span>Alex Jones<\/span><\/a>?<\/span><\/p>\n

Blogger Eric Dubay\u00a0<\/span>dismissed the theory<\/span><\/a> when he first saw it swirling around the discussion boards, telling one commenter that Hicks\/Jones was \u201cthe stupidest internet meme ever.\u201d But later, Dubay concluded he\u2019d spoken too soon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dubay, who still has a site devoted to \u201cexposing the global conspiracy from Atlantis to Zion,\u201d apologized in 2013 for not believing the Hicks\/Jones theory at first. \u201cThere is certainly much more evidence for this claim than I’d originally realized,\u201d he wrote (though he\u2019s since deleted the post).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s the proof? Dubay pointed to online videos that exposed the physical similarities between the two men. \u201cTheir facial recognition matches 100%,\u201d he claims, \u201conly it appears Alex has had a nose job and gotten considerably fatter than Bill ever was.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
