Fox News star Greg Gutfeld\u00a0<\/strong>said the main reason Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong> and Stephen Colbert\u00a0<\/strong>have been on the air for so long is due to \u201centertainment welfare,\u201d where their corporate bosses are happy with them, even if their ratings are bad, because they have dutifully \u201ctoed\u201d the anti-Donald Trump<\/strong> line for years.<\/p>\n Gutfeld shared his thoughts on Kimmel\u2019s September suspension<\/a>, as well as Colbert\u2019s recent cancelation, during a sit down interview<\/a> with The New York Times<\/em> on Saturday. Reporter David Marchese\u00a0<\/strong>asked Gutfeld what his \u201cimmediate reaction\u201d was to hearing about both events.<\/p>\n Here is what the Gutfeld!<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>host told him:<\/p>\n \u201cWhy did it take so long? I had crushed them like bugs, David. I\u2019d crushed them and thrown them into the wind, and they were still here. I call it entertainment welfare. The only reason why they were around for so long, despite the fact that their numbers were dropping, was the fact that they toed the line. I don\u2019t think it was political. I didn\u2019t know anybody \u2014 and I\u2019m counting my many liberal friends \u2014 who watched them, and I think it\u2019s because it wasn\u2019t entertainment anymore. It was more like a therapy session for people that were upset at the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n He then pushed back on Marchese asking if there were any \u201clarger corporate-political considerations\u201d that went into Kimmel\u2019s brief suspension or Colbert getting booted.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think so. There\u2019s never been anybody who\u2019s ever really folded because of Trump saying, \u2018You suck.\u2019 Was it extra noise in the story? Probably,\u201d Gutfeld said. \u201cBut I honestly think that the grumbling was already there.\u201d<\/p>\n Kimmel was suspended<\/a> from Sept. 17 to Sept. 22, after he implied the man who murdered conservative influencer Charlie Kirk<\/strong> was a Trump supporter \u2014 contrary to reports. Here is the comment he made on his Sept. 15 show that led to his suspension:<\/p>\n \u201cThe MAGA [is] gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n And Colbert, similarly, has been ripping Trump for years on his CBS program.
