Australian musician John Butler has responded to Metallica<\/a>\u2018s surprise nod at their Perth concert<\/a> by delivering a heartfelt, blues-infused take on the band\u2019s iconic single \u201cEnter Sandman.\u201d<\/p>\n Butler shared the cover via Instagram<\/a> while on tour in Europe and the U.K., captioning the post: \u201c@metallica Enter Sandman, but make it John Butlery.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n Butler, who is currently touring across Europe and the U.K., shared his bluesy interpretation via Instagram, using a custom-made Indian slide guitar known as a Chaturangui. \u201c@metallica \u2018Enter Sandman,\u2019 but make it John Butlery,\u201d he captioned the clip. \u201cIt\u2019s taken me a minute to pull my sh*t together after Metallica covered my song \u2018Zebra\u2019 last weekend in Perth\/Boorloo\u2026 I thought I\u2019d tackle one of their lesser-known tracks. I hope you like it.\u201d<\/p>\n Metallica\u2019s rendition of \u201cZebra\u201d came during the band\u2019s signature \u201cdoodle\u201d segment \u2014 a live intermission where lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo jam on a local song as a nod to the host city\u2019s musical legacy. Butler, who awoke to news of the tribute from across the globe, posted: \u201cMetallica are performing in Boorloo\/Perth tonight\u2026 I\u2019ve just woken up in London to several texts\/vids of them performing \u2018Zebra\u2019 wtaf!?? This is a spin out!! RESPECT\ud83d\ude4c\ud83e\udd18\u2665\ufe0f.\u201d<\/p>\n The Perth doodle was part of a string of Australian tributes during Metallica\u2019s 2025 M72 World Tour<\/em> run. In Adelaide (Nov. 5), the band mashed up INXS\u2019 \u201cNeed You Tonight\u201d and The Angels\u2019 \u201cAm I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again,\u201d blending two Aussie anthems into a gritty, high-octane medley.<\/p>\n The mutual admiration comes as Metallica continues the Australian leg of their M72 World Tour, with upcoming shows in Brisbane (Nov. 12), and Sydney (Nov. 15). The band last toured Australia in 2013, headlining Soundwave Festival.<\/p>\n Butler, meanwhile, is promoting his latest album PRISM<\/em>, the third instalment in his Four Seasons<\/em> series, following Running River<\/em> and Still Searching<\/em>.
