With seven student bands on display and over two-and-a-half hours of live music, Boston College Music Guild\u2019s 2025 Fall Showcase was a must-see. Students flocked to the Vandy Cab Room on Thursday evening for the event, either to support their friends or simply to rock along and catch some tunes before a night out.<\/span><\/p>\n Pedestrian<\/b><\/p>\n The first band to take the stage was Pedestrian. The group opened with \u201cFall Back\u201d by Porch Light, a rock-and-roll lullaby that had the crowd swaying back and forth. The lead singer\u2019s vocals were a highlight, remaining strong and smooth throughout the set.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Pedestrian upped the tempo with its second song, \u201cI Write Sins Not Tragedies\u201d by Panic! At The Disco, which featured intense bass and alternating vocalists. Also vacillating was the vocal style, ranging from whispered to emphatic lyrics. Pedestrian closed their set with a bouncy original, which received warm applause from the audience.<\/span><\/p>\n Perchance the Band<\/b><\/p>\n Pedestrian was followed by Perchance the Band. It opened intently with a fantastic rendition of Carrie Underwood\u2019s \u201cBefore He Cheats.\u201d The frontwoman\u2019s vocal vigor and range flawlessly captured the song\u2019s feeling. The band\u2019s talent really shone, however, in its next two performances, which were both originals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThrow It Away\u201d featured brilliant guitar and drum solos, as well as stunning harmonizing between the frontman and frontwoman on the song\u2019s refrain. The chemistry between the singers was also evident on \u201cSlow It Down,\u201d the second Perchance original. The group completed their impressive set with \u201cDani California\u201d by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and \u201cRunaway Baby\u201d by Bruno Mars.<\/span><\/p>\n Tiburon<\/b><\/p>\n Tiburon, in what was the band\u2019s live debut, brought a jazzy twist to the evening\u2019s performances. They opened with an artful rendition of Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s \u201cLove On Top,\u201d which featured a thrilling vocal performance. With saxophonists, a trumpeter, and a keyboardist, the band provided wholly unique and thoroughly enjoyable covers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The tempo was increased with \u201cMusta Been a Ghost\u201d by Pr\u00f3xima Parada, and then slowed down again with an incredibly sweet performance of \u201cIf I Ain\u2019t Got You\u201d by Alicia Keys. Tiburon closed out their set with the similarly mellow \u201cGravity\u201d by John Mayer.<\/span><\/p>\n Letters in June<\/b><\/p>\n The fourth band to perform was Letters in June, who performed grungy, hard-hitting rock and roll. There was lots of hair whipping as the frontman flung himself about the stage boisterously throughout the set.<\/span><\/p>\n Without introducing their songs, and the lyrics hardly audible, what music they actually performed was ambiguous. But in what was undoubtedly a spirited performance, Letters in June maintained the evening\u2019s musical vitality and entertained the audience.<\/span><\/p>\n Blind Drive<\/b><\/p>\n Up next was Blind Drive, who opened with the iconic \u201cWhole Lotta Love\u201d by Led Zeppelin. This was followed by the equally popular \u201cMary Jane\u2019s Last Dance\u201d by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. With such a recognizable setlist, the crowd could happily sing along with the frontwoman.<\/span><\/p>\n The band followed with two more crowd pleasers\u2014the night\u2019s second \u201cDani California\u201d performance, and \u201cValerie\u201d by Amy Winehouse. The latter garnered chants of \u201cencore\u201d from the crowd, which were answered with \u201cThis Love\u201d by Maroon 5 to conclude the satisfying set.<\/span><\/p>\n Overcast<\/b><\/p>\n The penultimate performance of the evening came from Overcast. They opened with \u201cAll I Wanted\u201d by Paramore. The lead singer was the band\u2019s highlight, as her unbelievably high vocals provided the particularity of their covers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHabits\u201d by Tove Lo and \u201cIgnorance\u201d by Paramore maintained the group\u2019s musical mood, which is reflected in its name. It closed with the ultimate despondent song, Radiohead\u2019s \u201cCreep.\u201d Despite the lack of cheerful songs, Overcast was musically solid throughout.<\/span><\/p>\n German Exit<\/b><\/p>\n BC Music Guild\u2019s Fall Showcase was concluded with a set from German Exit. They performed scream metal, in the same vein as Letters in June.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Even though the audience had thinned significantly by its set time, German Exit belted out their songs vigorously.
