Kenny Chesney is ready to open up about his \u201cdeep\u201d relationship with Ethel Kennedy.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a year since the sister-in-law of former President John F. Kennedy<\/a> passed away at 96 years old. Several Hollywood<\/a> stars attended her funeral including Sting, Stevie Wonder and the 57-year-old country singer, who performed Johnny Cash\u2019s hit song You Are My Sunshine at the service.<\/p>\n

It turns out his touching rendition had an underlying, personal meaning as Kenny now reveals he and Ethel were in \u201cdeep soul love\u201d with one another.<\/p>\n

In his new memoir Heart Life Music, he recalled the moment he first met Ethel. He said, “[Rory Kennedy] invited me to come to Hyannis Port to meet her mother, Ethel, the day before our Gillette shows.\u201d<\/p>\n

When he first arrived at the Kennedy compound, he felt like \u201cthe history hit him.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He remembered seeing black and white photos of key figures of the prominent family like Bobby and John F. Kennedy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re sitting in this wonderful living room, where I was seated, waiting for JFK to win by that narrow margin,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t begin to see the home as a place of comfort rather than a grand, monumental space until he met the socialite, saying, \u201cWhen Ethel Kennedy sees you and reaches for a hug, she\u2019s so radiant and welcoming, her presence eclipses everything else.\u201d<\/p>\n

“From the moment I sat down on the couch with her, there wasn\u2019t any history,\u201d he elaborated. \u201cI didn\u2019t think about her as an activist, an icon, but someone filled with life, who filled everyone with love.”<\/p>\n

After their initial meeting, they enjoyed a blissful day together, talking, sailing in Nantucket<\/a> Sound and playing volleyball with the family\u2019s kids.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe fell in deep soul love. Her spirit is so engaging, I wanted to soak it all up,\u201d Kenny confessed.<\/p>\n

The singer said that day was \u201conly the beginning, describing their connection as \u201cone of those written-in-the-universe things.<\/p>\n

“Everything about us clicked. The humor, curiosity, passion for living was our reality,” he wrote. “We shared so many laughs and moments.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued to gush over the late socialite, before concluding, \u201cShe was ninety, having more fun than people a third her age. Nobody loved living, her family, dogs, or causes more.”<\/p>\n

Despite their connection, Kenny<\/a> was taken by surprise when he was asked to perform at her funeral. Nevertheless, he took the opportunity to honor the woman he describes as \u201csunshine.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
