Charli XCX<\/a> has revealed \u201cHouse,\u201d a new song featuring John Cale<\/a> written for Emerald Fennell\u2019s forthcoming adaptation of Emily Bront\u00eb\u2019s novel\u00a0Wuthering Heights<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n In addition to tapping The Velvet Underground\u2019s John Cale for \u201cHouse,\u201d Charli crafted the song with regular collaborator Finn Keane. Stream the new song below.<\/p>\n In a note shared on social media, Charli discussed helming songs for Fennell\u2019s adaptation of\u00a0Wuthering Heights<\/em> with Keane: \u201cAfter being so in the depths of my previous album, I was excited to escape into something entirely new, entirely opposite,\u201d she wrote. \u201cWhen I think of Wuthering Heights<\/em>, I think of many things. I think of passion and pain. I think of England. I think of the Moors, I think of the mud and the cold. I think of determination and grit.\u201d<\/p>\n Charli, being a fan of Todd Haynes\u2019 2021 documentary on The Velvet Underground<\/a> and the band\u2019s storied output, recruited Cale for the song; she describes his quote of good music needing to be \u201celegant and brutal\u201d as a guiding force: \u201cI got really stuck on that phrase. I wrote it down in my notes app and would pull it up from time to time and think about what he meant.\u201d She describes calling Cale up to exchange ideas, writing, \u201cThat voice, so elegant, so brutal. I sent him some songs, and we started talking specifically about \u2018House.\u2019 We spoke about the idea of a poem. He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do. And it was\u2026 well, it made me cry.\u201d<\/p>\n Related Video<\/p>\n \u201cHouse\u201d is Charli XCX\u2019s first new song in over a year; her last release was the\u00a0Brat<\/em> companion album\u00a0Brat and it\u2019s completely different but also still brat<\/em>. In the meantime, Charli has been gearing up for a new era in cinema, with more tracks from Fennell\u2019s\u00a0Wuthering Heights<\/em> on the way and a star-studded new film,\u00a0The Moment<\/em><\/a>, hitting theaters in 2026.
