So far, options include an everyday facial sheet mask, an after-sun hydrogel mask, a hydrating hydrogel facial mask and animal-themed masks.<\/p>\n<p>But Dr. Sandy Skotnicki, author of\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/r.nypostlink.com\/?btn_ref=org-19984c113c692001&amp;btn_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FBeyond-Soap-Truth-Beautiful-Healthy%2Fdp%2F0735233608%3Ftag%3Dnypost-20%26asc_refurl%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fnypost.com%2F2025%2F10%2F31%2Fhealth%2Fteens-are-developing-lifelong-issues-from-skincare-routines%2F%26asc_source%3Dweb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cBeyond Soap\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and co-host of \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/skintoitpodcast.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Skin to It<\/a>\u201d podcast, has doubts after looking at the ingredients list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe formula is definitely <em>not<\/em> good for young skin,\u201d she told The Post. \u201cThere are 68 ingredients, give or take \u2014 I had a hard time counting them all. Your tiny child\u2019s skin has to consider this many chemicals on their thin, skill-developing skin. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThese are potential irritants and allergens.\u00a0Taken all together, there are a lot of ingredients the thin skin of a 3-year-old would have to deal with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Skotnicki previously sounded the alarm that kids and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/31\/health\/teens-are-developing-lifelong-issues-from-skincare-routines\/\">tweens are developing lifelong contact allergies<\/a> because of their aggressive skincare routines that use too many active ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe skin barrier has a job to do \u2014 keep moisture in and irritants out,\u201d Skotnicki said. \u201cWhen you bombard it with too many ingredients, you break it down \u2014 and once it\u2019s compromised, you open the door to redness, burning, itching, breakouts, even long-term sensitivity,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Shay Mitchell\u2019s controversial new skincare line for kids has been criticized by several people. <span class=\"credit\">Chelsea Lauren\/Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While Rini doesn\u2019t include harsh ingredients common in adult skincare routines like retinol or chemical exfoliators, the lengthy ingredients list on the brand\u2019s website includes such unpronounceable things as cyanocobalamin (a synthetic form of vitamin B12), chamazulene (an antioxidant compound) and calcium aluminum borosilicate (a thickening agent).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne small merit could have been this \u2014 children\u2019s skin is thinner and more sensitive, so gentle, age-appropriate products do have a place. The problem is the sheet mask has 68 ingredients,\u201d the doc said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it had three ingredients like a bamboo sheet, HA and panthenol to sooth, she would have pulled it off. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">Shay Mitchell<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cFurthermore, there are numerous flower extracts! What is going on \u2014 for 3 year olds? These are potential irritants and allergens,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell claimed in the product announcement on Instagram that this new business venture is \u201cabout self-care\u2026 teaching our kids that taking care of themselves can be fun, gentle, and safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But critics say there\u2019s simply no need for a product like this to exist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKids should be outside digging in the dirt, enjoying nature, growing plants, playing games \u2014 not putting on sheet masks,\u201d she said. \u201cDo we need another personal care product that kids think they need to feel good about themselves?<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Mitchell\u2019s new kids item is unnecessary for young children, who only need basic skincare. <span class=\"credit\">Shay Mitchell<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cDo we need another personal care product that kids think they need to feel good about themselves? Though the ingredients are likely harmless, there is no positive health benefit. The social and emotional messaging is questionable at best. And the appeal is to a specific socioeconomic demographic.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the dermatological downsides, Skotnicki is worried about what kids will take away from this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is simply the absolute wrong message to send to little girls,\u201d she said. \u201cFocus at this age is skin health not beauty standards. Got it!\u201d wrote one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving \u2018perfect\u2019 skin has become the new diet culture,\u201d wrote another, while a third simply wrote: \u201cHorrified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease explain to me why literal toddlers need face masks and skin care and to be sitting in front of a makeup mirror looking at themselves? They should have playing and getting dirty and not caring what their skin looks like at that age. Sigh.
