Following a bad box office debut of her film \u201cChristy,\u201d actress Sydney Sweeney is speaking out.<\/p>\n
The sports drama had one of the worst openings for a new release. It grossed about $1.3 million and played in over 2,000 theaters, according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n Box Office Mojo<\/a> ranks it among the worst openings for a new movie.<\/p>\n The movie follows the life of former professional boxer Christy Martin and shines a light on domestic violence.<\/p>\n Amid the box office blunder, the \u201cEuphoria\u201d actress took to social media<\/a> to say that she\u2019s \u201cproud of this movie.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cProud of the film David made,\u201d she said in reference to director David Mich\u00f4d. \u201cProud of the story we told. Proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin. This experience has been one of the greatest honors of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued her post by saying, \u201cThis film stands for survival, courage, and hope.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThrough our campaigns, we\u2019ve helped raise awareness for so many affected by domestic violence. We all signed on to this film with the belief that Christy\u2019s story could save lives,\u201d Sweeney explained.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, \u201cPredator: Badlands\u201d topped the box office<\/a> at $80 million worldwide.<\/p>\n But that didn\u2019t faze Sweeney. She then thanked those who saw the movie and who \u201cfelt and believed and will believe in this story for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf Christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded.
