Malaysian rapper Namewee<\/a> was recently taken into police custody over his connection to the death of Taiwanese OnlyFans model\/influencer Iris Hsieh. Then, he dropped a new song the same day, after surrendering himself to authorities.<\/p>\n

On Nov. 5, the controversial 42-year-old artist<\/a> released the song \u201cVery Shaui.\u201d The song title reportedly translates to \u201cVery Handsome,\u201d according to AOL News<\/em><\/a>. Earlier that day, Namewee \u2014 whose real name is Wee Meng Chee \u2014 was remanded into police custody to \u201cassist in the investigation,\u201d after being named a \u201cperson of interest\u201d in Hsieh\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

Malaysian rapper Namewee has pleaded not guilty to drug use and possession following his arrest last month.<\/p>\n

This comes after he denied drug use in connection with the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, also known as Nurse Goddess.<\/p>\n

BBC News<\/em><\/a> reports that the 31-year-old influencer was in Kuala Lumpur to meet with Namewee about a commercial video that he was set to direct. This, according to her social media manager. Hsieh and Namewee had previously worked together on Namewee\u2019s music video for the song \u201cChina Reggaeton<\/a>,\u201d which was released in January 2020.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 22, Namewee called for emergency services, and when they arrived, they found Hsieh unresponsive in a bathtub.<\/p>\n

Hsieh was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.<\/h2>\n

The same day, Namewee was arrested on charges of illegal drug use and possession when police found nine blue pills \u2014 believed to be ecstasy \u2014 in the hotel room. He denied using drugs, but police say he tested positive for several illicit substances, such as amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC.<\/p>\n

Namewee pleaded not guilty to the drug charges and was granted bail and released some time later.<\/h2>\n

Over the past two weeks, Namewee has repeatedly maintained his innocence. He has accused local media reports of being just news outlets \u201cchasing shadows.\u201d However, on Nov.4, Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus spoke to reporters and alleged that Namewee had \u201cgone into hiding\u201d after the case was reclassified from \u201csudden death\u201d to murder.<\/p>\n

Chief Fadil also stated that police were waiting for post-mortem and toxicology results to determine Hsieh\u2019s cause of death.<\/p>\n

This brings us up to Nov. 5, when Namewee reportedly took to Instagram to let his followers know that he\u2019d arrived at the police state with the intent to \u201cfully co-operate with the police to provide answers to the public and the bereaved family.\u201d He added, \u201cI won\u2019t run away.\u201d<\/p>\n

CBS News<\/em><\/a> has reported that police sought to keep Namewee in custody longer than the six days they are legally allowed to keep him. They took their case to the courts and were granted three additional days. In a statement, Namewee\u2019s lawyer, Joshua Tay, said that \u201cthe investigation is still ongoing and this is why the police is asking for an extension of the remand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Namewee remains in police custody as of this writing.<\/p>\n
