The Prince of Wales will appear in schools across the country today to deliver a special message about the importance of honouring veterans. William, 43, will feature in a pre-recorded video message telling pupils that it\u2019s important \u201cto stop and reflect\u201d, adding that Remembrance Day \u201cteaches us empathy, resilience and responsibility\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cComing together for Remembrance is a vital way to honour those whose service keeps us safe,\u201d he says in a message for the Royal British Legion\u2019s Remembrance Assembly. \u201cEven today, as we continue to face a number of conflicts across the world, we honour those who have gone before us, and those who are serving now.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir memories matter, their lives matter, and they remind us to be respectful, kind, brave, and thoughtful every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The Assembly is an online learning event that takes place annually on Armistice Day, or the closest school day, and is aimed at students aged 9-14. It can be accessed on YouTube or Zoom.<\/p>\n
In the video message, the prince says: \u201cArmistice Day is an important time for us to stop and reflect \u2013 it is a reminder that Remembrance is for everyone.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we remember, we connect with service in a personal way. We learn from the courage of others, and we carry their stories forward, so they are not forgotten. It\u2019s not just about the past\u2014it\u2019s about shaping who we become in the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cRemembrance teaches us empathy, resilience, and responsibility. And when we wear a red poppy or take a moment of silence, we are saying, \u2018Thank you. We have not forgotten, and we will not forget.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough my own military experience, as well as through my work in connection with units across the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force, I have seen firsthand the hard work, dedication and duty the Armed Forces carry out to ensure we are protected.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The Assembly will hear directly from current serving military personnel RAF Air Commander Fred Wigglesworth and Army Lieutenant Colonel Manpreet Maycock, alongside first-hand testimony of Second World War veterans.<\/p>\n
Tonight, William will join the King and Queen as they host VJ veterans for a reception at Windsor Castle marking the 80th anniversary of the Second World War.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales will head to Staffordshire to attend the Armistice Day Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum.<\/p>\n
She\u2019ll join attendees in observing a two-minute silence at 11am before laying a wreath in remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and all those who have served in the Armed Forces.<\/p>\n
A specially commissioned poem, by the National Memorial Arboretum\u2019s Poet in Residence, Arji Manuelpillai, will be read at the service.<\/p>\n
\u201cA Sonnet For Us All\u201d reflects the importance of personal connections, experiences and bonds that are formed through military service; themes which are particularly close to The Princess\u2019 heart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
