Musician Sophia James has apparently cracked the code of TikTok\u2019s algorithm \u2013 and is now riding a wave of viral success.<\/p>\n
The former American Idol contestant decided, as an experiment, to post seven videos with her new single, \u201cSo Unfair,\u201d to the social media platform. The first three weren\u2019t labeled, and the rest were labeled \u201cGroup 4\u201d through \u201cGroup 7.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first six videos only generated reactions and comments in the thousands. However, thanks to the mystery of TikTok\u2019s algorithm, \u201cGroup 7\u201d took off like a rocket. As of Monday, it had amassed more than 84 million views<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI came home from a session one night and had the idea to post a ton of videos using the sound in hopes of getting out there,\u201d James told KTLA on Monday, \u201cthinking no one was going to see it anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n She posted the seven videos, expecting very little to come of it \u2013 boy, was she wrong.<\/p>\n \u201cThe next morning, I woke up to a boom of notifications and friends coming out of the woodwork, texting me, \u2018You know, I\u2019m in Group 7!\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The number kept growing \u2013 and being part of \u201cGroup 7\u201d has taken on a cult-like phenomenon on social media.
