Generally, in these moments, I don\u2019t like to think of myself as a person who should necessarily weigh in via the comments, but all that changed this week when one person started a thread asking the age old question: Is <em>Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves<\/em> a good movie? It\u2019s my moment, y\u2019all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Listen, as a youngster who grew up in the nineties with a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/news\/1537019\/rip-the-vhs-is-basically-dead-at-40\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:VHS player (RIP);elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">VHS player (RIP)<\/a> and habitually negligent parents, I can confidently say I have watched <em>Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves<\/em> at least 50 times. My sister and I still occasionally bust into the, \u201cThere was a rich man from Nottingham who tried to cross the river\u201d song, and I still often throw out lines like, \u2018Fuck me, he cleared it.\u201d So, an Internet debate over whether or not the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/news\/2556057\/kevin-costner-80s-and-90s-movies-to-watch-if-you-like-the-yellowstone-star\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:'90s Kevin Costner;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">&#8217;90s Kevin Costner<\/a>, Alan Rickman, Morgan Freeman, and Christian Slater movie is good? Let me roll up my sleeves and get my keyboard warrior on.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\">One Reddit User Called Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves Their \u201cEmbarrassing Pick\u201d And It Kicked Off A Big Debate<\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This whole thing started when one Reddit user unabashedly mentioned in a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/movies\/comments\/1otx9z4\/whats_a_movie_that_is_awful_critically_panned_the\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:thread on Reddit;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><u>thread on Reddit<\/u><\/a> they \u201cliterally love\u201d <em>Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves<\/em>, but feel like \u201cthey shouldn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I literally love Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02 I shouldn\u2019t. Kevin Costner uses an American accent. The dialogue isn\u2019t very good. There are a million reasons this movie sucks &#8211; and I get it. But I LOVE it. I generally (from what I\u2019m told by others) have decent taste in movies. But I LOVE this movie like an asshole lol what\u2019s your embarrassing pick?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">What they really hoped to do was spawn a conversation about embarrassing movies that people are just obsessed with. What they more so ended up doing was spawning a debate about whether or not the Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie sucks or is excellent. The critics can go kick rocks. I mean&#8230; Alan Rickman continues his streak of playing the greatest movie villains ever (Hans Gruber, Sheriff of Nottingham, Severus Snape, that dickhead in Love Actually). Morgan Freeman is awesome as always. Great actions scenes, great music, perfect Sean Connery cameo&#8230;I don&#8217;t even care about Kevin Costner&#8217;s lack of an English accent, since the nobility back then (including Robin of Locksley) would have been speaking Norman French anyway.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Man, I been watching <em>Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves<\/em> for most of my 37 years on this planet.I liked it when I was a kid, a teenager, and I still like it. I probably end up watching it with someone who hasn\u2019t seen it every 5 years or so. Damn Im overdue for some dang Robin Hood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Seriously, who didn&#8217;t love <em>Prince of Thieves<\/em>?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A lot of people in the thread maybe don\u2019t think the movie is one of the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/100-best-movies-1990s-232341343.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:best of the 1990s;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">best of the 1990s<\/a>, but there are plenty who mentioned specifically how great Alan Rickman\u2019s casually funny villain is in the flick. (Personally, I like this performance more than the one in <em>Die Hard<\/em>, and I will die on that hill.)<\/p>\n<ul class=\"mb-4\">\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Yeah, but Alan Rickman\u2019s Sheriff is one of my favorite villains.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Alan Rickman was gold in everything he was in\u2014RIP to a fine actor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">So, I think we can agree the movie is fondly remembered, but that still leaves us with one big question&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\">Is Prince Of Thieves A Good Movie?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A lot of fans called out how <em>Robin Hood: Men in Tights<\/em> is honestly so much better, with one noting <em>Thieves<\/em> \u201cwalked\u201d so <em>Men In Tights<\/em> \u201ccould run.\u201d Others didn\u2019t defend the movie as good and noted \u201ccritics hated it,\u201d but did mention contextually it rocked out at the box office in 1991. They have a point. When <em>Prince of Thieves<\/em> came out, it was not beloved by critics. A roundup of reviews years later on Rotten Tomatoes only has the flick at 51%, though it\u2019s worth noting the audience score is a much higher &#8211;though not incredibly high &#8212; 72%. And this is well before the time the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/news\/2462159\/please-stop-with-robin-hood-movies-hollywood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:audience basically turned on Robin Hood movies;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">audience basically turned on <em>Robin Hood<\/em> movies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Eventually, the original poster clarified their stance, noting the movie is \u201cnot good\u201d but it\u2019s also \u201cgreat,\u201d which is I think maybe the point to hammer home here.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Everyone I know makes fun of me. I adore it. That climax at the end, when she yells \u2018 ROBINNNNNNN!!!!\u2019 At the top of her lungs to save herself gave me chills. But when I talk about it, people tease me hahaha cause\u2026 you know\u2026 it\u2019s not good. It\u2019s great. I don\u2019t feel like <em>Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves<\/em> is a <em>good<\/em> movie per se, but it is a nineties charmer chock full of memorable performances. The total package just works, even with multiple accents and a goofy script. This movie has everything: It\u2019s got a Sean Connery cameo. It\u2019s got Kevin Costner as an American Robin Hood. It&#8217;s got <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/kevin-costner-looked-magic-mushrooms-232102840.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:weird set stories involving mushrooms;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">weird set stories involving mushrooms<\/a>. Plus, it features a lot of weirdly quotable lines. Most importantly, it\u2019s infinitely watchable.
