Crooked Wing<\/a><\/em>, their first new album since the pre-pandemic days. Now, as These New Puritans get ready for a quick European tour, they’ve shared a song from the album sessions that didn’t make it onto the record.<\/p>\nThese New Puritans is not a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover, which you can tell because it’s not called “Otherside.” You might think that Chili Peppers song is called “The Other Side,” but no, you fool, you absolute bungler, it’s just “Otherside.” Everyone knows that. Instead, the new TNP track is a quiet, wordless, impressionistic track that’s mostly built on a Jack Barnett’s piano improvisation. <\/p>\n
In a press release, George Barnett says, “It\u2019s one of the most minimal songs we\u2019ve ever done — just Jack on piano, improvised live, me on drums, and soprano. It’s eaten at me that it hasn\u2019t seen the light of day before now as it\u2019s Jack at his best.” For his part, Jack describes the song as “what we could have sounded like in another time and another place.” Below, check out “The Other Side” and These New Puritans’ upcoming tour dates.<\/p>\n
