Princess Kate<\/a> led the nation in remembering war heroes today<\/a> as she stepped out solo at the National Memorial Arboretum. The Princess of Wales, 43, looked as elegant as ever as she attended the 30-minute ceremony on Tuesday<\/a>, taking part in the two-minute silence and laying a wreath at the memorial in Staffordshire.<\/p>\n At the event, Kate sported two poppies on her military-style black coat, which she wore with a large-brimmed hat. While many fans have been quick to praise the princess\u2019 appearance at the poignant ceremony, not everyone noticed the wardrobe mishap the future Queen only just managed to avoid.<\/p>\n Throughout the ceremony, Kate was seen holding onto her hat after it appeared to be at risk of blowing away in the wind.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The princess was seen holding onto the wide-brimmed hat multiple times throughout the service, including when she first arrived at the memorial this morning.<\/p>\n Thankfully, the hat \u2013 which was adorned with a black bow \u2013 managed to not blow away in the breeze.<\/p>\n After the service on Tuesday, the princess spent time inside the memorial centre where she joined school children at a special exhibition called \u2018Letters from the Frontline – Words, War and Victory\u2019.<\/p>\n Her Royal Highness also met with D-Day veterans Alan Kennett and Geoffrey Spencer, and VE and VJ Day veteran Donald (Bill) Redstone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The princess spent time chatting to the veterans about their experiences, before revealing that her eldest son prince George, 12, will be \u201cvery jealous\u201d he was not there to learn more about their experiences, including Mr Spencer\u2019s experience flying a Lancaster Bomber.<\/p>\n She could be heard saying: \u201cGeorge will be very jealous.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cGeorge very much likes Airfix models and the Lancaster Bomber and he knows much more about aircraft than me.”<\/p>\n
