Sales veteran Pia Patatian has used this year\u2019s American Film Market to launch production and sales banner Noora Films.<\/p>\n
Alongside unveiling her new company, Patatian has come onboard to handle international rights on alternative period drama \u201cMadfabulous\u201d from BAFTA Cymru winner Celyn Jones (\u201cThe Almond and the Seahorse\u201d). Jones directs from the debut feature script by Welsh writer Lisa Baker.<\/p>\n

They will love it,\u201d said Patatian, who serves as Noora CEO.<\/p>\n From Jones\u2019 Mad as Birds production company, the film is produced by Nadia Jaynes (\u201cMarcella,\u201d \u201cThe Responder\u201d) and Sean Marley (\u201cPoms,\u201d \u201cSix Minutes to Midnight\u201d). Nicola Pearcey (\u201cMilitary Wives,\u201d \u201cThe Almond and the Seahorse\u201d) executive produces for Picnik Entertainment, alongside Paul Baker. Jay Cohen at Gersh will handle U.S. rights.<\/p>\n \u201cWith its humour, heart, and sense of irreverence, Madfabulous is a rare gem,\u201d said Cohen. \u201cIt\u2019s a film brimming with personality and anchored by exceptional performances. We\u2019re proud to bring it to U.S. buyers.\u201d<\/p>\n Patatian was recently president of Cloud 9 Studios (formerly Concord Studios), which she launched last year, and led sales on titles including Paul Schrader\u2019s Cannes competition title \u201cOh, Canada,\u201d Renny Harlin\u2019s \u201cDeep Water\u201d and the romantic comedy \u201cUnder the Stars\u201d starring Toni Collette and Andy Garcia, which she also produced. Prior to that, she served as senior vice president of sales for Capstone Pictures, running the company\u2019s operations in London, and previously served as director, international sales at Blue Box International (a label of Red Granite International).
