Set in 1186 England after the Norman invasion, the series centers on Rob Locksley (Jack Patten), a.k.a. Robin Hood. The son of a Saxon forester, Rob joins forces with a Norman noblewoman named Marian (Lauren McQueen) to fight royal corruption. <\/p>\n
Rob also assembles a ragtag group of rebel outlaws, including Little John (Marcus Fraser), Will Gamewell (Henry Rowley), Ralph Miller (Erica Ford), and Friar Tuck (Angus Castle-Doughty).<\/p>\n
We all know the story of Robin Hood, the legendary archer of English folklore who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. The tale has been adapted into countless other films and TV shows, so what makes the MGM+ series different?<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wanted it to be original,\u201d director John English told NBC affiliate WTHR<\/a>. \u201cWe wanted it to feel fresh, and I think the original, fresh take that we were really aiming for was to make it feel human, relatable, a little bit more grounded, a little bit more historically accurate than most of the Robin Hoods that we\u2019ve seen.\u201d<\/p>\n The new series stars \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d alum Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham and \u201cGladiator\u201d actress Connie Nielsen as Eleanor of Aquitaine. \u201cRobin Hood\u201d showrunner John Glenn told WTHR that it was a \u201cdream\u201d to get such \u201cworld-class actors\u201d to sign on.<\/p>\n \u201cWe spent a lot of time on those roles and telling the story of the Sheriff of Nottingham, creating a character that you haven\u2019t quite seen before,\u201d Glenn said. \u201cHe\u2019s not just this sort of blindly obsessed, rage-filled person just out to get Robin Hood.
