Coco Austin has no qualms about breastfeeding her and Ice-T\u2019<\/a>s daughter, Chanel Nicole, until age 6.<\/p>\n The \u201cSports Illustrated\u201d model revealed the news in 2021 to much controversy. And during a Nov. 9 episode of “The Dumb Blonde<\/a>“ podcast<\/a>, where the topic was revisited, Austin firmly defended her decision.<\/p>\n \u201cIt wasn\u2019t like I was feeding her because she needed a meal,\u201d the “Ice Loves Coco” alum explained. \u201cShe was able to eat by a year, full solids. It was more of a bonding experience. More of like, \u2018Okay, I\u2019ll give you the milk,\u2019 but it was more that she wanted to be around me.\u201d<\/p>\n Austin explained that she wasn\u2019t forcing Chanel, now 9, to breastfeed, but rationalized the experience as \u201cI\u2019m going to let her stop when she wants to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s not going to be 16 on my boob,\u201d Austin continued. \u201cShe\u2019s eventually going to figure out that this is kind of strange or weird and stop. And that happened around [age] 6 \u2014 which was still an extremely long time.\u201d<\/p>\n Additionally, Austin slammed those who tried to \u201csexualize\u201d the mother-daughter bonding moment. <\/p>\n \u201cIt was mostly when she went to sleep she wanted me to be there,\u201d she explained. \u201cSo it was more of a comfort thing. I got so many people who loved it.\u201d<\/p>\n The World Health Organization<\/a> recommends breastfeeding up to two years or beyond, but there\u2019s flexibility based on individual family circumstances. A 2003 study<\/a> from the National Library of Medicine noted that most children are completely weaned off between ages 2 and 4. <\/p>\n Austin described it as a positive experience for her and Chanel. \u201cTo this day, she is obsessed with boobs,\u201d she added. \u201cShe\u2019s always sitting and laying on me. It\u2019s just a really nice moment because it\u2019s not going to be like this when they get into the teenage years.\u201d<\/p>\n She emphasized, \u201cI\u2019m loving every moment I can with Chanel.\u201d<\/p>\n Austin, who married the \u201cLaw & Order: SVU\u201d in 2002, welcomed Chanel with him in November 2015.
