In a new interview with The Times<\/i> published November 12, the British actress \u2014 best known for her roles in Peep Show<\/i> and Two and a Half Men<\/i> \u2014 opened up about life after marrying into the British royal family, calling the experience \u201ctotal hell\u201d for many of its members. <\/p>\n
Sophie Winkleman, 45, wed Lord Frederick Windsor \u2014 the son of Queen Elizabeth\u2019s first cousin Prince Michael of Kent \u2014 in 2009. She regularly joins the royal family at events, such as Princess Kate\u2019s annual Christmas carol concert. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe more I get to know the royal family, the more I get that their lives are total hell and that level of unasked-for fame is a form of torture,\u201d she told the publication.<\/p>\n
Sophie explained that none of the royals \u201cwent on Pop Idol<\/i> or something to be famous,\u201d but were instead thrust into an intense spotlight from birth. \u201cTo have that sort of blinding spotlight in your face from when you\u2019re born, not knowing quite whom you can trust, not knowing if someone\u2019s going to betray you, people writing lies about you the whole time, is just brutal,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel for them all,\u201d she continued. \u201cI don\u2019t think a life with that much scrutiny and pressure is remotely healthy, but they have no choice.\u201d<\/p>\n
The actress also shared a lighter, yet telling, detail from her 2009 royal wedding. \u201cI didn\u2019t know anyone at my wedding,\u201d she said, admitting that apart from a few close friends, the guest list was filled with unfamiliar royal faces.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
