Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine are the latest celebrities to buy into the wave of artificial intelligence sweeping Hollywood.<\/p>\n
The two Academy Award-winning actors recently teamed up with the New York-based AI audio research startup ElevenLabs<\/a> to virtually replicate their voices. McConaughey also invested an undisclosed sum in the company.<\/p>\n “The Lost Bus<\/a>” star, who has worked with ElevenLabs since it was founded in 2022, stated he will use the technology to create a Spanish-language audio version of his Lyrics of Livin’ newsletter.<\/p>\n Caine, the British actor who brokethrough in the 1960s,\u00a0 is poised to join the company’s Iconic Voice Marketplace, which brokers licensing deals for companies seeking AI voice talent.<\/p>\n “It’s not about replacing voices; it’s about amplifying them, opening doors for new storytellers everywhere,” Caine said in a statement. “I’ve spent a lifetime telling stories. ElevenLabs will help the next generation tell theirs.”<\/p>\n ElevenLabs has also rendered voice models of celebrities like Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia<\/a>, Judy Garland and Liza Minelli, among others. In May, First Lady Melania Trump enlisted the company to replicate her voice for the audiobook release of her memoir, “Melania<\/a>.”<\/p>\n “To everyone building with voice technology: keep going,” McConaughey said in a statement. “You’re helping create a future where we can look up from our screens and connect through something as timeless as humanity itself\u00a0– our voices.”<\/p>\n ElevenLabs’ latest partnerships come at a time when AI is infiltrating the arts more than ever before, stirring discontent among many creatives.<\/p>\n Earlier this week, the creators of the controversial AI-generated performer Tilly Norwood<\/a> announced they’re developing<\/a> “at least 40” additional digital characters, despite drawing concerns from working actors.<\/p>\n “We help reduce budgets so projects can enhance creativity with real actors,” Eline Van der Velden, founder of the AI talent studio Xicoia and production company Particle6<\/a>, said at the Zurich Summit. “This tech is here and it’s going to stay”<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the technology has also found its way into the music industry, with AI artists gaining popularity and making their way into the mainstream. “Walk My Walk,” a song by AI-generated artist\u00a0Breaking Rust<\/a>, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Digital Song Sales chart this week.<\/p>\n
