Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n<\/a>\u00a0has her own reasons for not attending the recent wedding of her Emilia P\u00e9rez<\/em><\/a> costar Selena Gomez<\/a>.<\/p>\n “I didn’t go to the wedding, I’m working,” Gasc\u00f3n recently shared on the red carpet<\/a> outside the 2025 Los40 Music Awards in Valencia, Spain.<\/p>\n “Besides, imagine! I’m not even going to my family’s weddings, because we have to shell out. Imagine if I had to pay for Selena’s. No, no, no, I’d be ruined,” she joked.<\/p>\n Gasc\u00f3n rose from relative obscurity to Oscar nominee alongside two of the biggest stars in the world \u2014 Gomez and Zoe Salda\u00f1a<\/a> \u2014 in the award-winning musical from French director Jacques Audiard. Emilia P\u00e9rez <\/em>tells the story of its titular heroine (Gasc\u00f3n), a ruthless drug dealer who undergoes gender transition, in part, to avoid legal persecution. Salda\u00f1a shares many of her scenes with Gasc\u00f3n as Rita Mora Castro, an attorney who aids Emilia along her gender-affirming journey, while Gomez plays Emilia’s estranged wife Jessica Del Monte.<\/p>\n The trio, along with Mexican actress Adriana Paz, earned the rare honor of a joint Best Actress prize at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where the film premiered. When the musical finally arrived stateside, it led the pack at the Academy Awards with a staggering 13 nominations.
