{"id":2153316,"date":"2025-11-13T04:09:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T04:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2153316"},"modified":"2025-11-13T04:09:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T04:09:07","slug":"how-alex-loera-leans-on-her-faith-following-second-acl-tear-deseret-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/how-alex-loera-leans-on-her-faith-following-second-acl-tear-deseret-news\/","title":{"rendered":"How Alex Loera leans on her faith following second ACL tear \u2013 Deseret News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It\u2019s safe to say Alex Loera\u2019s first season as a Utah Royal didn\u2019t go according to plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">That\u2019s the biggest lesson she\u2019s learned this season, the midfielder told reporters during exit interviews Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI think it\u2019s exactly that \u2014 that even when we have ideas and visions for ourselves, it doesn\u2019t always go that way, and so just being adaptable, understanding that it may not be exactly the way I wanted,\u201d Loera said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Eight days after returning to the pitch from a devastating ACL injury, Loera tore her ACL a second time \u2014 in the same knee \u2014 during training. Through it all, Loera has leaned on her Christian faith.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll ever get answers for why this happens on this side of the Earth, but I don\u2019t need them because I know that he knows all and I just lean into that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"How-Alex-Loera-is-leaning-on-faith-through-adversity\" class=\"dn-article-body__h3\">How Alex Loera is leaning on faith through adversity<\/h3>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Before joining the Royals, Loera was with Bay FC, which entered the NWSL the same season as the Royals. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Loeara was Bay FC\u2019s first player after the team made a trade for her with KC Current. Days later, Loera tore her ACL again. <\/span><span class=\"c-media-item__credit\">| Utah Royals <\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m devastated, bummed, confused, but even through it all I know that my God has a greater plan and will use this next journey for His glory,\u201d she wrote on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C6C8J1Pt0dK\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C6C8J1Pt0dK\/\">Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Loera was traded to the Royals in December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She missed the first two months of the 2025 season while she finished her ACL recovery from the year prior and debuted for the Royals on May 9. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Eight days later, Loera tore her ACL again \u2014 in the same knee \u2014 during training.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cMy faith is super important to me,\u201d she said. \u201cWithout that, I don\u2019t know how I would have been able to get through (this experience). &#8230; It\u2019s just been a lot. But I know that the Lord has a plan, and he\u2019s already walked me through this. So it\u2019s just trusting and leaning on him during this time is really what gets me through this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Even Loera\u2019s recovery hasn\u2019t gone according to plan this season. Three months ago, Loera underwent a second surgery to correct errors from the first. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Loera also suffered a meniscal tear. As a result, she and the medical staff are being \u201ca little cautious with that and pushing running back a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She just started running on an anti-gravity treadmill and hopes to be running by the end of the month. She will continue rehabbing in Utah during the offseason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It\u2019s been difficult to watch her team from the sidelines, Loera admitted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI do think going to the games was a little bit tough for me mentally,\u201d she said. \u201cSo thankfully, the club has been very, very accommodating with that, and they didn\u2019t make me go to the games unless I felt ready to try to go be back in the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">So, Loera has chosen other ways to support and show up for her teammates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI have really tried to prioritize my mental health, but while trying to still show up for the girls,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I\u2019m very much so behind the scenes checking in the locker room. If a girl looks down &#8230; I\u2019ll make sure to go one on one and check in with her and just be as supportive as I can.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Alex-Loera's-Christian-faith\" class=\"dn-article-body__h3\">Alex Loera\u2019s Christian faith<\/h3>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Loera said her faith has \u201cdefinitely been tested\u201d this season. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt was a little rocky when it first happened because I just obviously had my first minutes back, and it was just a really difficult year last year, so I was just really confused,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">But it wasn\u2019t enough to blind her to the other blessings she\u2019s experienced following her trade to Utah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything that could happen that could make me walk away from my faith. I think just the blessings that I\u2019ve experienced outside of soccer, too, since moving to Utah,\u201d she said. \u201cThe Lord works in crazy ways, and he has just blessed me with some amazing people, both in the club and outside of the club.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">When Loera moved to Utah, she told Tom Golightly, the team\u2019s sports psychologist, that she was looking for a new church to attend. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He connected her with Real Salt Lake\u2019s Tommy Silva and Zack Farnsworth. Loera started attending church with them and their wives at The Well, a nondenominational Christian church in Sandy, Utah. They\u2019ve all since become best friends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Loera has had an \u201camazing experience\u201d with Utah\u2019s faith community since she moved to the Beehive State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s just an amazing, inviting community,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t care if I have different beliefs, like I lead with love.\u201d <\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Sharing-her-faith\" class=\"dn-article-body__h3\">Sharing her faith<\/h3>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Loera hasn\u2019t shied away from sharing her faith. She often shares Bible verses on social media. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">But the biggest stage came in her debut game for Utah against Angel City FC in May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In the 74th minute, Angel City defender Savy King collapsed on the pitch.
