The trailer for\u00a0The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/a>\u00a0is here and it introduces a pair of very familiar faces from the video games: Princess Rosalina (voiced by Brie Larson) and Baby Bowser (voiced by Benny Safdie).<\/p>\n

Rosalina, of course, made her debut in the Super Mario Galaxy titles, while Bowser’s chaos-happy son first appeared in 1995’s\u00a0Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island<\/i>. With that said, the film has opted to go with the version of Baby Bowser players met in Super Mario Sunshine, where the diminutive Koopa royal got his hands on a reality-warping paintbrush created by Professor E. Gadd.<\/p>\n

Returning cast members include\u00a0Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad) and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek). More voices will be announced in the near future.<\/p>\n

While there is no official plot synopsis for the sequel yet, the footage teases a struggle between Baby Bowser and the rest of our heroes as the former attempts to rescue his shrunken father. How they all get to space is another question entirely.<\/p>\n

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic returned to co-direct the sequel, written by\u00a0Matthew Fogel. Illumination co-founder and CEO Chris Meledandri is a producer on the film alongside Super Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto.\u00a0Brian Tyler is also back to compose the score.<\/p>\n

“From its groundbreaking world-building to its iconic characters and unforgettable music,” Meledandri remarked in September 2025,\u00a0“the Super Mario Bros. have left a lasting impact on the very fabric of our culture.”<\/p>\n

“All of us at Illumination feel so fortunate to continue our collaboration with Nintendo as we expand the life of Mario in movies,” he continued. “And while the\u00a0Super Mario Galaxy\u00a0games are the core inspiration for our story, this next film holds surprises for fans of every\u00a0Mario\u00a0era. Our directors,\u00a0Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, along with the extraordinary team of artists at our studio in Paris, are very busy working to deliver a film that aspires to earn its place in the history we’re here to celebrate.”<\/p>\n

When does The Super Mario Galaxy Movie come out?<\/h2>\n

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie arrives in theaters everywhere April 3, 2026. Tickets are not yet on sale.<\/p>\n
