DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) \u2013 An up-and-coming music artist in the Wiregrass has released a new single, and that artist just so happens to be a member of our team here at WDHN!<\/p>\n
Rodney Preston grew up in Webb, writing his first song at just 14-years-old, before going on to graduate from Rehobeth High School.<\/p>\n
Preston grew up leading his church in worship music, but once he reached his 20\u2019s, he decided to make his dreams in music a reality. He packed up his life in the Wiregrass and left for California where he would spend the next four or five years honing his skills as an artist.<\/p>\n
Preston described his time in California as a rollercoaster of emotional highs and lows riddled with uncertainty, and mainly living in survival mode.<\/p>\n
After a long road of finding himself as both a person and an artist, Preston moved back to the Wiregrass in 2012 where he would later become a husband, and father of three daughters.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow can I expect my kids to chase their dreams if I never chase mine,\u201d Preston says.<\/p>\n
Now flash forward to 2025, on a quiet September night of swirling thoughts, Preston took out his guitar, and his debut song \u201cFences\u201d was born.<\/p>\n
The song draws on the emotions of sometimes being homesick and not truly understanding the purpose of life until you lean into the ones that love you the most.<\/p>\n
