But at the end of the night on Friday, Nov. 21, someone is going to be awarded Best Live Performance. These are the first-place winners in the various genre categories: Rock\/Alternative, Country\/Americana\/Folk, Hip-Hop, R&amp;B\/Blues, Open, and Covers; as well as Youth, Album of the Year, and Best Songwriter<\/p>\n<p>In between their performances, second and third place genre winners will receive their awards. You\u2019ll also find out who this year\u2019s Local Legend Award goes to as well as who you voted for during our annual Readers Poll. They now call Switzerland home, and they\u2019re touring in support of their fourth album, <em>Cloud Drifter<\/em>.<\/p>\n<aside>\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really wanted to finally be able to capture in the studio the feeling that people had listening to us live,\u201d Yavor said in press materials. \u201cPart of that involved really taking the time to polish the music between recording and mixing. Can we make this more impactful? How can we make it more attention-grabbing? He\u2019ll be at a vinyl listening party in Jan\u2019s Vinyl Bar on <strong>Friday, Nov. 14<\/strong> (7 p.m.), and he\u2019s the main attraction at the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/galacc.org\/\">Gala Pride &amp; Diversity Center<\/a>\u2019s Queer Indie Night in SLO\u2019s The Libertine Brewing Company on <strong>Saturday, Nov. 22<\/strong> (doors at 7, show at 7:30 p.m.; $14.70 presale at <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/my805tix.com\/e\/gala-presents-queer-indie-night\/tickets\">my805tix.com<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very excited to be working with Gala on presenting a night of queer indie music at the Libertine, featuring me, <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wryn.com\/\">Wryn<\/a><\/strong> (from Santa Barbara and recently signed to Righteous Babe Records), and my Kill Rock Stars labelmate <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.johmusic.com\/\">Joh Chase<\/a><\/strong> from Los Angeles,\u201d Nichols said. \u201cWe\u2019re fundraising for Gala as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nichols\u2019 new album is an indie rock treasure described as \u201ca Ph.D. dissertation in contemporary indie rock and alt-folk\u201d that \u201cpulls from disparate strands of Nichols\u2019 universe to form an amalgam of queer ecology, rustic punk, existential folk, frenetic indie pop, spoken word, experimental jazz, and Neil Young-esque shredding,\u201d his bio explains. It\u2019s \u201ca meditation on grief\u2014but not in the ways you\u2019d expect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAcross 13 dynamic and lovingly produced indie gems, Nichols interrogates the grief, guilt, complicity, joy, anger, fear, and dissociative feelings that come along with living through a mass extinction event. <em>Stone Age Is Back<\/em> isn\u2019t really a political album, or an album explicitly about the climate crisis\u2014rather, it\u2019s an album that explores what it means to be living and dying right now, in this moment of extraordinary change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>She shredder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Electric blues guitarist Debbie Davies learned from some of the best blues masters including John Mayall, Duke Robillard, and Coco Montoya. Formed in 2016, the all-female Japanese heavy metal band led with a self-titled EP before delivering their full-length debut, <em>Awakening from Abyss<\/em> (2017), which led to a series of shows in Japan and the UK. They released <em>Judgement Day<\/em>, their fifth studio album, in 2023, but their most recent recording is an EP, <em>Lovebites EP II<\/em>, released last year.<\/p>\n<p>LA-based cinematic hard rockers <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edgeofparadiseband.com\/\">Edge of Paradise<\/a><\/strong> open the show. They\u2019re touring in support of their sixth studio album, <em>Prophecy<\/em>, whose first single, \u201cDeath Note,\u201d is making waves in the heavy metal scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also at Fremont is rock icon <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.todd-rundgren.com\/?utm_source=Tedium&amp;utm_campaign=Tedium_08_08_2019&amp;utm_medium=email\">Todd Rundgren<\/a>, who got his start way back in 1967 when he formed the psychedelic rock act Nazz and later the progressive rock act Utopia. Rundgren was also on the cutting edge of technology, using computers long before they were commonplace and the internet for music distribution.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His hits include \u201cWe Gotta Get You a Woman,\u201d \u201cHello It\u2019s Me,\u201d \u201cI Saw the Light,\u201d \u201cCan We Still Be Friends,\u201d \u201cBang the Drum All Day,\u201d and \u201cCouldn\u2019t I Just Tell You.\u201d See <strong>Todd Rundgren<\/strong> on <strong>Saturday, Nov. 15<\/strong> (doors at 7, show at 8 p.m.; all ages; $50.44 to $93.70 at <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prekindle.com\/events\/fremont-theater\">prekindle.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Two collectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Numbskull and Good Medicine have a couple of great shows this week, and headlining both are collaborative ensembles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis band feels like the old family farm,\u201d Sam Doores, one of five songwriters and multi-instrumentalists in The Deslondes, said in press materials. \u201cIt\u2019s a place where we can meet for the Fourth of July, bring our families, grill some burgers, and make some music together. It\u2019s always going to be there, and we know it\u2019s going to work and feel good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve been together more than 15 years and have recorded four albums and played countless live shows.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFounded less as a band than as a neighborhood hang at Doores\u2019 home on Deslonde Street, the band devised an anything-goes philosophy that allowed them to incorporate sounds they picked up on their travels and everything they heard at home: classic country, hobo folk, crust punk, rural blues, Third Ward jazz, rockabilly, R&amp;B, Fats Domino, and Allen Toussaint but also George Jones and the Band,\u201d their bio explains.<\/p>\n<p>See <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.deslondes.com\/\">The Deslondes<\/a><\/strong> in Club Car Bar on <strong>Friday, Nov. 14<\/strong> (8 p.m.;
