The test kicks off today in five countries: India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Premium Lite<\/strong>\u00a0is an entry-level Spotify subscription, removing the free tier\u2019s ads and giving people full on-demand listening.<br\/>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Premium Standard<\/strong>\u00a0adds higher-quality sound (but not lossless audio) and offline listening. There is also a version of this tier for students.<br\/>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Premium Platinum<\/strong>\u00a0<em>does<\/em>\u00a0have lossless audio, as well as features including AI DJ, AI playlist creation, DJ-software integrations and playlist-mixing. It also includes \u201ctwo additional household seats\u201d\u00a0\u2013 it\u2019s a three-person family plan\u00a0\u2013\u00a0and 12 hours of audiobook listening in South Africa, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>New subscribers in these five countries will have to choose between these three plans when signing up. For now, existing subscribers will be able to remain on their current plans, and Spotify\u2019s free tier will remain available in all five countries too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pricing varies by country, but Music Ally South Asia editor Amit Gurbaxani\u2019s report on the changes \u2013\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/musically.com\/2025\/11\/13\/spotify-launches-new-subscription-plans-for-five-markets-including-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">which you can read here<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0breaks down how the new tiers are priced there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Premium Lite will cost Rs139 in India, with Premium Standard costing Rs199 (or Rs99 for students) and Premium Platinum Rs299.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This compares to the existing pricing in India of Rs139 for an individual Premium subscription, Rs179 for a two-person Duo plan and Rs229 for a six-person Family plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sight of Spotify shaking up its subscription tiers might have made you, like us, jump to the conclusion that this test marks the debut of the streaming service\u2019s long-anticipated \u2018superfans\u2019 tier. That\u2019s not the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, it\u2019s about expanding the subscription options to widen the on-ramp to Spotify\u2019s paid service in high-potential markets, while also quietly nudging up the cost of a \u2018standard\u2019 subscription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By that, we mean that users in India who currently want offline listening, higher audio quality pay Rs139 a month\u00a0\u2013\u00a0with Spotify having\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/musically.com\/2025\/08\/05\/spotify-hikes-prices-in-india-bangladesh-nepal-and-bhutan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">raised that price in August from its previous Rs119<\/a>. However, new subscribers who want these features will now need to pay Rs199 a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the new Platinum tier is being pitched as \u201cthe ultimate Spotify experience\u2026 with the latest features and tools\u201d\u00a0\u2013 several of which haven\u2019t been launched in these five countries before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>So while this isn\u2019t\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/musically.com\/2025\/02\/17\/multiple-reports-offer-new-details-on-spotify-superfan-tier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the rumoured \u2018Music Pro\u2019 superfans tier<\/a>, it\u2019s nevertheless a hint at how Spotify might restructure its subscriptions elsewhere in the world as and when that launches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our final takeaway from today\u2019s announcement concerns family plans. Again, we\u2019ll use India as the example to explain it. There, a family plan for up to six people currently costs Rs229 a month, but there is no comparable plan in the new structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, a household of more than three people wanting full access to Spotify there will need to pay for two Platinum plans, costing Rs598 a month \u2013 or one Platinum and one Standard plan for a combined cost of Rs498 a month and then make the kids fight over who doesn\u2019t get the top tier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Either way, it\u2019s a significant change.
