Massive Attack<\/a>\u00a0have said they intend to release a \u201ccache\u201d of music \u201ccreated in the recent past\u201d in\u00a02026, but\u00a0not on\u00a0Spotify<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Bristol trip-hop legends\u00a0have not released any\u00a0new music\u00a0since the self-released 2020 EP \u2018Eutopia<\/a>\u2019, while their last full-length album\u00a0remains\u00a02010\u2019s \u2018Heligoland<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n In an interview last year with\u00a0NME<\/i><\/a>, the band\u2019s Robert Del Naja confirmed that they had \u201csome new music which we\u2019ve been sitting on for four years\u201d, adding: \u201cHopefully we\u2019re going to be able to release it next year and do some gigs.\u201d<\/p>\n Today (November 13), they shared an Instagram post in which they wrote: \u201cFrom next year we will release a cache of work created in the recent past. Tracks will be available physically and digitally via a new label. With a Spotify exception.\u201d<\/p>\n They added that fans can receive announcements on their 2026 releases as well as special performances by joining their official WhatsApp channel\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Massive Attack\u2019s dispute with Spotify\u00a0emerged\u00a0earlier this year when\u00a0they revealed that they had asked their label UMG to remove their music from the platform<\/a>, following reports that the company\u2019s CEO Daniel Ek had led a \u20ac600million (\u00a3524million) investment into Helsing, a Munich-based company creating drones and artificial intelligence for military operations.<\/p>\n In a statement at the time, the band said: \u201cIn light of the (reported) significant investments by [Spotify\u2019s] CEO in a company producing military munition drones & Al technology integrated into fighter aircraft, Massive Attack have made a separate request to our label that our music be removed from the Spotify streaming service in all territories.\u201d<\/p>\n They continued: \u201cThe economic burden that has long been placed on artists is now compounded by a moral & ethical burden, whereby the hard-earned money of fans & the creative\u00a0endeavours\u00a0of musicians ultimately\u00a0funds\u00a0lethal, dystopian technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n Several other artists have made similar moves to remove their work from Spotify this year, including\u00a0King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard<\/a>, Deerhoof<\/a>, Wu Lyf<\/a>, Xiu Xiu <\/a>and The Sabres Of Paradise<\/a>.<\/p>\n In September,\u00a0Ek announced that he would be stepping down as CEO on January 1, 2026<\/a>, with Spotify co-presidents Alex\u00a0Norstr\u00f6m\u00a0and Gustav S\u00f6derstr\u00f6m set to take his place.<\/p>\n In their\u00a0NME\u00a0<\/i>interview last year, the band also suggested that a \u201cdispute at the label\u201d had been a major factor in their new music being held up, while the new message confirms that the 2026 releases will be on a \u201cnew label\u201d. The group\u2019s studio albums so far have been released via Virgin Records and its imprint Circa, which was acquired by Universal Music Group (UMG) in 2012.<\/p>\n Del Naja said: \u201cI hate sitting on stuff for too long because\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0the first person to get bored of it. I deliberately\u00a0don\u2019t play\u00a0it for months so that I can\u00a0maintain\u00a0some enthusiasm for it.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0good \u2013\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0looking forward to it!\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere,\u00a0Massive Attack have been announced as playing at Primavera Sound<\/a>\u00a0next June,\u00a0as well as Primavera Porto<\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0they denied that facial recognition had been used at their live shows this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n
