AN 18-track amalgamation of flamenco, rumba and opera with lyrics in 14 different languages, featuring collaborations with music greats including Bj\u00f6rk, Estrella Morente and even the London Symphony Orchestra.<\/strong><\/p>\n This is Lux<\/em>, the extraordinary fourth studio album by Rosalia Vila Tobella, better known simply as Rosalia \u2013 Spain\u2019s biggest modern music star.<\/p>\n Released just one week ago, the Catalan singer\u2019s latest offering has been hailed by critics as her greatest yet.<\/p>\n For Will Hodgkinson of The Times<\/em>, it is an \u2018exquisite\u2019 work of art.<\/p>\n For others it is \u2018truly compelling\u2019 and \u2018spectacular\u2019, a \u2018masterpiece\u2019 featuring \u2018moments of melodic beauty\u2019.<\/p>\n artist.<\/p>\n Remarkably, twelve of its tracks entered Spotify\u2019s daily list of the top fifty most-streamed songs globally, whilst the album\u2019s lead single, Berghain<\/em> \u2013 a reference to the famously Berlin nightclub \u2013 has already topped the charts in Spain and entered several other lists worldwide.<\/p>\n \u2018Rosalia mania\u2019 has taken over Spain \u2013 with the prime minister even joining in.<\/p>\n Writing on X, Pedro Sanchez said: \u201cCongratulations, Rosalia, on the dazzling release of Lux<\/em>!<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019ve placed Spain at the top of the world music scene, with the most successful debut by a female Spanish-speaking artist on Spotify, reaching the position of the third most listened-to artist across the entire platform.\u201d<\/p>\n Wearing Spain, fans are in adoration of \u2018Saint Rosalia\u2019, viewing the 32-year-old from Sant Esteve Sesrovires as worthy of candlelit altars \u2013 chiming with a recent surge in the Catholic faith among some youngsters.<\/p>\n One baker in central Spain has started producing yemas de Santa Teresa sweets \u2013 a type of confectionary traditionally made by nuns \u2013 in honour of the singer.<\/p>\n The hysteria has even spread to the clergy with Xabier Gomez Garcia, a leading bishop in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, writing an open letter that read: \u201cYou seem to live art as a spiritual crossing\u2026Your creation is a pilgrimage towards transcendence.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cYour words baffle me, but they also open up the possibility of a dialogue about the complexity of the human experience.\u201d<\/p>\n Rosalia, who first rose to prominence with her album El mal querer <\/em>in 2018, says her grandmother rang her up in tears after reading the bishop\u2019s letter.<\/p>\n Speaking on La Revuelta <\/em>to an estimated audience of over 2.7 million viewers, Rosalia hinted at the religiosity underpinning the album, explaining her fascination with \u2018the interview with El Pais<\/em>, she went further, saying: \u201cI resonate with Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism [\u2026] I think they all have things that I can relate to\u2026and all of this has allowed me to broaden my horizons and my idea of spirituality.\u201d<\/p>\n But some have accused the Catalan of shamelessly jumping on the religious bandwagon, not least because her 18-track epic features lyrics including: \u201cI will f*** you until you love me.\u201d<\/p>\n Catalan author Najat El Hachmi asked: \u201cWhere is the monastic spirit in the pop star\u2019s life of wealth and hyper-sexualised imagery?\u201d<\/p>\n One thing remains certain, though \u2013 this album has cemented Rosalia\u2019s position as the greatest Spanish music artist of her generation.<\/p>\n As one
