FX has canceled the sitcom \u201cEnglish Teacher\u201d after two seasons, ending a show that garnered critical acclaim while facing controversy over sexual assault allegations against its creator and star, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Deadline<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n The network has not released a formal statement explaining its decision to end the series. The cancellation came less than two months after the entire second season was released on FX and its streaming affiliate, Hulu.<\/p>\n The show, which premiered in September 2024, followed the life of high school teacher Evan Marquez. Alvarez created and starred in the series alongside Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton and Carmen Christopher. The sitcom\u2019s first season earned nominations at the Critics Choice, WGA, and Film Independent Spirit Awards, Parade<\/a> noted.<\/p>\n Allegations of sexual assault against Alvarez surfaced before the show\u2019s premiere when Jon Ebeling, a former colleague, publicly accused the comedian, according to Variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n At the time, an FX spokesperson said, \u201cWe reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show\u2019s launch. Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns.
