Trip-hop<\/a> icons Massive Attack rarely release new music, but that\u2019s looking to change next year.<\/p>\n Earlier today, the group shared on social media<\/a> that they plan to release new music, but shared that it won\u2019t be coming to Spotify.<\/p>\n \u201cFrom next year we will release a cache of work created in the recent past,\u201d the group posted. \u201cTracks will be available physically and digitally via a new label with a Spotify exception.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Massive Attack announced that it would remove their music<\/a> from Spotify in response to Spotify CEO Daniel Ek\u2019s multimillion-dollar investments<\/a> in AI military drone technology through the German firm Helsing.<\/p>\n In their statement shared on social media, the band would write:<\/p>\n \u201cIn the separate case of Spotify, the economic burden that has long been placed on artists is now compounded by a moral & ethical burden, whereby the hard-earned money of fans & the creative endeavours of musicians ultimately funds lethal, dystopian technologies,\u201d the band continued. \u201cEnough is more than enough. Another way is possible.\u201d<\/p>\n At the same time as the announcement, the band would also share that they had joined the No Music For Genocide movement, a cultural boycott initiative pressuring artists, labels, and rights-holders to remove music from streaming platforms via geo-blocking in Israel.<\/p>\n
