Photo Credit: Elijah Lewis Thomas.<\/small><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Matt Hitt, the lead singer and songwriter of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/drownersband\/?hl=en\">Drowners<\/a>, chatted about his new EP, which will be out on November 14th via Killphonic.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>How did \u201cCarried\u00a0Away\u201d come about?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I was thinking about what\u2019s happening when you\u2019re going down the proverbial rabbit hole and the different ways of coping when you find yourself losing the plot. <\/p>\n<p>The panic and paranoia of all that logic perception stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, I was trying to write a punk-y song about that and what came out was \u201cCarried Away.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Matt Hitt - Carried Away (official lyric video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AiGslPuEkr8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><em><strong>What inspires your music and songwriting?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Most of the time it\u2019s whatever has been ruminating in my brain as I\u2019m walking around New York. <\/p>\n<p>I find that just aimlessly wandering in Manhattan with all it\u2019s sensory bombardment can be pretty inspiring.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>How did you approach the song selection process for the new EP?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tim (Lanham who produced the EP) and I listened to a playlist of demos I had assembled from a couple years of writing and basically picked what we thought were the best songs\u2026simple as that really.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What\u2019s your personal favorite song on there?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I think \u201cI\u2019m Sorry, New York\u201d because, lyrically, I think I had been trying to write about my relationship with the city for a while and this is the first time I felt I had pretty much nailed it.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age? (Now with streaming, technology and social media being so prevalent)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pretty weird, especially as I hadn\u2019t released music for almost a decade and things have changed at a hyper-speed level. <\/p>\n<p>So, it feels a bit like being the oldest person at a nightclub and not understanding how to dance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What do your plans for the future include?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I think Tim and I are probably gonna record another EP together as soon as the touring schedule permits it.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Which artists would you like to do a dream duet with someday?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Either my fellow Welshman John Cale or, if we\u2019re really dreaming, I\u2019ll go with Dolly Parton please.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What does the word success mean to you? (My favorite question)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I suppose it\u2019s easy and inevitable to compare yourself to bigger artist and get bogged down in numbers etc \u2013 actually I guess that\u2019s a good thing cos it means you consistently have a goal. <\/p>\n<p>That being said, a few years ago I would\u2019ve considered releasing music in any capacity a success. So I suppose success means having anyone you don\u2019t know listen to your music.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What would you like to tell our readers about your new music? (What\u2019s the one thing you want them to get out of it)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would like to tell them it\u2019s wonderful and they\u2019d be denying themselves 20 minutes of pleasure if they don\u2019t listen to it.
