Rock legend David Coverdale is calling it a career.<\/p>\n
The Whitesnake star and former frontman for Deep Purple made the announcement in a video shared to YouTube.<\/p>\n
\u201cLadies and gentleman, boys and girls, brothers and sisters of the \u2018Snake, a special announcement for you,\u201d he said in the video. \u201cAfter 50 years-plus of an incredible journey with you, with Deep Purple, with Whitesnake, Jimmy Page, the last few years have been very evident to me that it\u2019s time really for me to hang up m rock and roll platform shoes and my skintight jeans. And as you can see, we\u2019ve taken care of the lion\u2019s wig. But it\u2019s time for me to call it a day.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love you dearly,\u201d he added. \u201cI thank everyone who\u2019s assisted and supported me on this incredible journey \u2014 all the musicians, the crew, the fans, the family. It\u2019s amazing, but it really is time for me to just enjoy my retirement. And I hope you can appreciate that. <\/p>\n

This comes after Whitesnake dropped out of last year\u2019s North American tour with the Scorpions as Coverdale \u201ccontinued treatment for a persistent upper respiratory infection,\u201d per Blabbermouth.net. <\/b><\/a><\/p>\n Coverdale began his career in 1966 and was the lead singer of Deep Purple from 1973 through 1976. He founded Whitesnake in 1978.<\/p>\n Coverdale, 74, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Deep Purple in 2016.
