Naked Gun<\/strong> director David Zucker has criticized the new reboot<\/strong>\u2018s creative approach. In a recent interview, Zucker has publicly accused the new film\u2019s creative team of \u201ccopying\u201d the approach of the original film.<\/p>\n David Zucker, director of the original Naked Gun films, has shared his thoughts about the direction of the new reboot led by Liam Neeson and produced by Seth MacFarlane. In a recent Woman\u2019s World interview<\/a>, Zucker said that MacFarlane \u201ctotally missed\u201d the style that he established decades ago with Jerry Zucker and Jim Abrahams.<\/p>\n The director said, \u201cMy brother, Jerry, and our partner, Jim Abrahams, started doing spoof comedies 50 years ago, and we originated our own style \u2014 and we did that so well that it looks easy, evidently.\u201d He added, \u201cPeople started copying it, like Seth MacFarlane for the new\u00a0Naked Gun. He totally missed it.\u201d<\/p>\n The director also raised concerns about the scale of the new production. He argued that large budgets are at odds with spoof comedy. \u201cBig budgets and comedy are opposites, and in the new\u00a0Naked Gun, you could see that they spent a lot of money on scenes full of technical pizzazz while trying to copy our style,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n Zucker also suggested that financial factor played a major role in reviving the franchise. He noted, \u201cEverybody\u2019s in it for the money now, and that feels like the only reason why they wanted to do a new\u00a0Naked Gun.\u201d<\/p>\n Zucker explained that he and his partners developed 15 comedy rules that guided their work.
