Al Roker<\/a> is no stranger to traveling for Today<\/a><\/em>, and the reason for his latest absence promises to be an exciting one.<\/p>\n The weatherman kicked off his week on the NBC morning show before skipping the Wednesday, November 12, episode. He missed the show again on Thursday, November 13, before wrapping up the week on Today<\/em>\u2018s Friday, November 14, episode. Though he didn\u2019t address the reason for his absence on the show, he gave fans a tease via Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI never realized you can walk across most of the terminals at @flylaxairport so I got 2 miles in this morning. Heading back to NYC after shooting a story 100 years in making,\u201d he captioned a Thursday Instagram video. \u201cCan\u2019t wait to share it with you next week on @todayshow I hope all #starttoday family Gets something done today because #somethingisbetterthannithing.\u201d<\/p>\n In the clip, Roker hinted that his assignment has something to do with an \u201cAmerican icon,\u201d adding, \u201cI cannot wait to bring it to you next week.\u201d Over the clip, Roker added Michael Bubl\u00e9<\/a>\u2018s cover of the Frank Sinatra<\/a> classic \u201cCome Fly With Me.\u201d<\/p>\n Fans shared their excitement over Roker\u2019s story, and his return to Today<\/em>, in the post\u2019s comments. \u201cSafe travels, can\u2019t wait to watch the story next week!\u201d one user commented, while another added, \u201cYou just keep on\u2026 keeping on. You\u2019re amazing Al.\u201d Someone else shared, \u201cI can\u2019t wait to hear it Al!\u201d<\/p>\n In a comment of her own, Good Morning America<\/a><\/em>\u2018s Ginger Zee<\/a> shared that she almost had an airport run-in with Roker. \u201cHey now \u2013 I was there too! How\u2019d I miss you? Love that walk,\u201d she wrote underneath the post.<\/p>\n The Office<\/em><\/a> alum Kate Flannery<\/a>, meanwhile, teased that she knew what Roker\u2019s upcoming Today<\/em> story is about. \u201cI have a good guess but I\u2019ll keep my mouth shut,\u201d she commented alongside several red heart emojis.<\/p>\n Today<\/em>\u2018s Dylan Dreyer<\/a> filled in for Al during his absences this week, as well as stepped in for him a few days last week. During one of his days off last week, Roker hilariously crashed an interview<\/a> on the third hour of Today<\/em> by standing right outside of Studio 1A\u2019s windows.<\/p>\n \u201cThanks for coming in to work today buddy,\u201d Jones quipped on November 4 before sharing, \u201cIn his defense, he got in really late last night, so we\u2019re letting him sleep in.\u201d Craig Melvin<\/a> later joked, \u201c\u201cAl Roker. He could come in to work today, but he could hang outside the studio.\u201d (Roker had been out on another assignment at the time.)<\/p>\n Ahead of this week\u2019s batch of Today<\/em> shows, Roker took to Instagram<\/a> to share a health update<\/a> with fans. \u201cFive years ago today, I had my cancerous prostate removed,\u201d he captioned the Sunday, November 9, post. \u201cThanks to Dr. Vincent Laudone and the staff at @memorialsloankettering for the treatment I received and to all the men out there, and the folks that love them, make sure you get your PSA checked, especially you\u2019re a man of color. We have higher rates of getting and dying from prostate cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n Roker filmed himself undergoing a PSA blood test at a hospital. \u201cDoctor says preliminary pathology shows nothing outside the prostate, maybe not even in the lymph nodes,\u201d he said of the procedure\u2019s results. \u201cThey\u2019ll know better when they get the full work up.
