But when she does think back, which she says she \u201crarely\u201d does, she said, \u201cI just feel so sorry for her. And sad that it took me so long to extricate myself and find myself again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow did I go to the shops? I was still working, still cleaning the house, we still went out,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"132df3d3-0545-4b37-a906-814ff23bbc5f\">The painful recollection of her experience prompted many fans to send messages of praise and support to Jaye, with one commenting on her interview, \u201cWell done Jaye. You are a strong, brave, inspiring lady. I&#8217;m sure you will help so many people to stand up and feel strong. I wish you a happy, contented and peaceful life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another said, \u201cShe is so powerful and inspiring. She was so wonderful to share this with us. I disappeared for about five years,&#8221; she told Kaye. \u201cYou would now use the term gaslight, but I couldn\u2019t make a decision. I didn\u2019t know if what I thought was real was real, because he would constantly tell me I was wrong and the day after he hit me, I would get jewellery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But one day, she finally went to the police to put an end to the abuse. \u201cWhen I finally went to the police, they said on average a woman is hit 37 times before she tells anyone. All I did was lie \u2013 \u2018no, I\u2019m fine, thanks, I\u2019m fine.\u2019 That\u2019s exhausting,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn\u2019t an easy decision. \u201cTime passes and you get stronger,&#8221; she said. &#8220;People say to me, \u2018Why didn\u2019t you just leave?\u2019 and I want to stab them in the eye and go, \u2018Where? And tell who? And do what?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s taken time, about \u201cthree or four years,\u201d Jaye says, but she is now living a \u201cgentle and peaceful\u201d life and is in a happy relationship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am myself again, and I am living a life that is so beautiful,\u201d she said. \u201cI love my home and my husband and our gentle, quiet life we lead. There is no drama at home.
