Whitesnake<\/a>\u2018s David Coverdale is calling it quits at 74-years-old, and announced he\u2019s done with music.<\/p>\n In a caption-less video posted on Instagram<\/a> on Thursday (Nov. 13), Coverdale sat sipping a glass of wine as he delivered the unfortunate news that he was retiring.<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cLadies and gentlemen, boys and girls, brothers and sisters of the Snake, a special announcement for you,\u201d Coverdale said. \u201cAfter 15 years plus\u2026the last few years have been very evident to me that it\u2019s time really for me to hang up my rock and roll platform shoes and my skin-tight jeans. And as you can see, we\u2019ve taken care of the lion\u2019s wig. But it\u2019s time for me to call it a day. I love you dearly. I thank everyone who\u2019s assisted and supported me on this incredible journey. All the musicians, the crew, the fans, the family. It\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n He ended his video departure with a tribute to a Whitesnake track called \u201cFare Thee Well.\u201d<\/p>\n At their peak, Whitesnake achieved an amazing amount of success. The band\u2019s 1987 smash \u201cHere I Go Again\u201d hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 28 weeks on the chart, while \u201cIs This Love\u201d hit No. 2 later that year. Their self-titled album hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1987 as well, and a few of the band\u2019s other songs like \u201cIs This Love,\u201d \u201cThe Deeper The Love\u201d and \u201cFool For Your Loving\u201d eventually broke onto the Hot 100.
