{"id":2157534,"date":"2025-11-14T22:40:41","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T22:40:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2157534"},"modified":"2025-11-14T22:40:41","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T22:40:41","slug":"jacob-elordi-on-frankenstein-euphoria-season-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/jacob-elordi-on-frankenstein-euphoria-season-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Jacob Elordi on Frankenstein, Euphoria Season 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWhen I finished the film, I felt like something had shifted, like something had come unstuck in-between my ribs,\u201d <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jacob-elordi\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jacob-elordi_1\" data-tag=\"jacob-elordi\">Jacob Elordi<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 the guest on this week\u2019s episode of <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u2019s <em>Awards Chatter<\/em> podcast, which was recorded at the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/newport-beach-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_newport-beach-film-festival_1\" data-tag=\"newport-beach-film-festival\">Newport Beach Film Festival<\/a> \u2014 said in reference to <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/guillermo-del-toro\/\" id=\"auto-tag_guillermo-del-toro_1\" data-tag=\"guillermo-del-toro\">Guillermo del Toro<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/frankenstein-review-oscar-isaac-jacob-elordi-netflix-1236351926\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/frankenstein-review-oscar-isaac-jacob-elordi-netflix-1236351926\/\">Frankenstein<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI felt kind of free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"pmc-protected-embed-2\" class=\"pmc-protected-embed\" width=\"100%\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/playlist.megaphone.fm?e=PMC6370606270\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe 28-year-old Australian actor plays The Creature in the latest big screen adaptation of <strong>Mary Shelley<\/strong>\u2019s classic horror novel,\u00a0which received a 15-minute standing ovation following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September, and is currently the most-watched English-language film on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/netflix\/\" id=\"auto-tag_netflix_1\" data-tag=\"netflix\">Netflix<\/a>, and for which Elordi is currently generating considerable best supporting actor Oscar heat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe continues, \u201cAnd then something happened when I was in Venice.\u00a0I was there with my sister and my mom and my dad,\u00a0and during that ovation, I saw them standing behind me, and I saw my agent, whom I\u2019ve known for 10 years now, and I kind of looked around, and I realized I was exactly where I was supposed to be my whole life. And every day since making that movie, in this industry I\u2019ve felt a kind of great calm that I\u2019m in the right place, I\u2019m meant to be here. And that\u2019s been a really sort of profound feeling and a great comfort in an industry where you usually feel quite alien.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tElordi began acting in earnest at the age of 16, after breaking his back while playing rugby. He lasted only six months at a drama school in Australia, but then he was quickly spoken for: \u201cJust when they asked me to leave, the next Friday, I think, I booked <em>The Kissing Booth<\/em>.\u201d That 2018 Netflix teen rom-com, in which he plays the older brother of a high school girl\u2019s best friend, who is supposed to be off-limits to the high school girl but becomes her first kiss, is not a film that Elordi is particularly excited to discuss, nor are its 2020 and 2021 sequels. But it was his first big acting job, and once he finished shooting it in South Africa in 2017, he moved to the U.S. to try to parlay it into other gigs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFor a while, he struck out. Because he was visiting on a visa, he could not be hired for many projects unless they had enough resources to pay for him to receive a different type of visa. After a while, he began to run out of funds and hope. \u201cI had nowhere to live anymore, and I didn\u2019t want to ask my parents for money anymore, so I was living in my RAV4 on Mulholland Drive,\u201d he recalls. Eventually, he told his manager that he was going to return to Australia for a while, but he agreed to do one final audition, which turned out to be for the part of a troubled jock on <strong>Sam Levinson<\/strong>\u2019s HBO drama <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/euphoria\/\" id=\"auto-tag_euphoria_1\" data-tag=\"euphoria\">Euphoria<\/a><\/em>. He, of course, walked away with the job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShortly after Elordi was cast on <em>Euphoria<\/em>, <em>The Kissing Booth<\/em> dropped on Netflix and unexpectedly turned him into an overnight heartthrob. \u201cI woke up into a completely different world,\u201d he recalls. \u201cThe Internet is insane. It was so frightening. I could feel the Internet manifesting in the real world. Like, I would go out to my coffee shop, and all of a sudden I felt like I was in <em>The Truman Show<\/em>.\u201d Then the first season of <em>Euphoria<\/em> debuted and only added to his celebrity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSoon, Elordi began landing a slew of prominent parts in films from respected <em>auteurs<\/em>. In 2023, he played <strong>Elvis Presley<\/strong> in <strong>Sofia Coppola<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Priscilla<\/em>, of which he says: \u201cI don\u2019t dance, I don\u2019t sing and I don\u2019t love to perform unless it\u2019s very kind of insulated, so I had to kind of shake all that off. And I did get fatter than I\u2019ve ever been, and it was incredible.\u201d That same year, he portrayed a rich Oxford student who is preyed upon by a classmate in <strong>Emerald Fennell<\/strong>\u2019s <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/saltburn-review-barry-keoghan-jacob-elordi-emerald-fennell-1235577882\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/saltburn-review-barry-keoghan-jacob-elordi-emerald-fennell-1235577882\/\">Saltburn<\/a><\/em>. And the following year, he played the younger version of <strong>Richard Gere<\/strong>\u2019s dying documentarian in <strong>Paul Schrader<\/strong>\u2019s <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/oh-canada-review-richard-gere-jacob-elordi-uma-thurman-paul-schrader-1235896541\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/oh-canada-review-richard-gere-jacob-elordi-uma-thurman-paul-schrader-1235896541\/\">Oh, Canada<\/a><\/em> (2024).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<strong>Justin Kurzel<\/strong>\u2019s five-part limited series <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-reviews\/the-narrow-road-to-the-deep-north-review-jacob-elordi-ciaran-hinds-odessa-young-justin-kurzel-1236137801\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-reviews\/the-narrow-road-to-the-deep-north-review-jacob-elordi-ciaran-hinds-odessa-young-justin-kurzel-1236137801\/\">The Narrow Road to the Deep North<\/a><\/em>, in which he was cast as an Australian doctor who has a love affair with his uncle\u2019s young wife shortly before heading off to fight in World War II and becoming a PoW, offered the actor his first chance to act in his native accent. It was while he was shooting that grueling project that he received an email informing him that <strong>Andrew Garfield<\/strong> had fallen out of del Toro\u2019s <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/frankenstein\/\" id=\"auto-tag_frankenstein_1\" data-tag=\"frankenstein\">Frankenstein<\/a><\/em>, which was set to begin shooting in nine weeks, and that he was wanted for the part. Elordi still had five more weeks of work on <em>The Narrow Road<\/em>, but he committed to the film, knowing that he would have only four weeks to get ready for it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDel Toro, a lover of genre movies who has said that he personally relates to the Creature, had been wanting to make <em>Frankenstein<\/em> for decades, and was drawn to Elordi for the part because of the actor\u2019s eyes \u2014 which are about the only parts of Elordi that are recognizable in the film underneath heaps of makeup and prosthetics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe spoke a similar language and we understood the world in a similar way, so I think he trusted me,\u201d Elordi says of del Toro. \u201cThe one thing that he stipulated was that the prosthetics were going to be hell, but you needed to approach them as if you were at the altar and you were doing some kind of sacrificial rite \u2014 it had to be a biblical experience \u2014\u00a0and when he said that, I understood exactly what he meant, and that opened up the process for me to not even think about the prosthetics and just think about the screenplay and the character.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFor the record, Elordi would spend four to 11 hours per day in the makeup trailer being transformed into the Creature. He explains: \u201cIt was 40-something pieces, constructed like a puzzle. When it was head to toe, when he was sort of naked, it took 10, 11 hours. And then when he was clothes on, it was anywhere from four to six hours just to do his head. But it was an incredibly cathartic process. By the time I got out of the chair, it felt like the way that my blood flowed had changed direction because I\u2019d been sitting for so long or standing for so long and sort of going in and out of these trances. You end up coming out in a monastic kind of state by the time you get to set.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOut of Venice, the <em>New York Times<\/em> declared that Elordi \u201cfeels like a genuine discovery in the film\u201d and that \u201cit\u2019s the sort of performance that could push the actor into contention for the best supporting actor race.\u201d The same publication, in its review of the film, declared, \u201cThis is a great cast, but [he, our guest] is the standout\u2026 it is a breakout performance worthy of serious attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tRegardless of what happens this awards season, Elordi has many exciting projects in the pipeline for 2026. He and Fennell reunited for an adaptation of <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/wuthering-heights-trailer-margot-robbie-jacob-elordi-full-1236426469\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/wuthering-heights-trailer-margot-robbie-jacob-elordi-full-1236426469\/\">Wuthering Heights<\/a><\/em> in which he plays Heathcliff opposite countrywoman <strong>Margot Robbie<\/strong>\u2019s Catherine. He is the lead in <strong>Ridley Scott<\/strong>\u2019s <em>The Dog Stars<\/em>, a post-apocalyptic film. And he and <strong>Lily-Rose Depp<\/strong> are paired together in the gothic-American fairy tale <em>Outer Dark<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tPlus, <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/euphoria-tragedy-trauma-1235953050\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/euphoria-tragedy-trauma-1235953050\/\">Euphoria<\/a><\/em> will be back on HBO with its third season four years after its second \u2014 a gap that he says had worried him: \u201cIt was very stressful because I thought my hair was going to fall out!\u201d He volunteers, \u201cI just finished filming that a few weeks ago, and it\u2019s a completely new show again. It\u2019s got a whole new sort of life in it. It looks different, it feels different, everyone\u2019s older now, everyone\u2019s made so many movies and has lived so much life.
