Jane Fonda<\/a><\/strong> is celebrating one of the most important people in her life.<\/p>\n

The 9 to 5<\/em> actress made rare comments about her ex-husband Ted Turner<\/strong>, as she honored him during the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential (GCAPP) EmPower Party and Gala in Atlanta on Nov. 13.<\/p>\n

Jane recognized her ex\u2014who did not attend the ceremony and has remained largely out of the spotlight since his diagnosis of Lewy body dementia in 2018\u2014for his contribution towards founding the Georgia-based organization with her in 1995, noting that it, “never would have happened if it wasn’t for Ted.”<\/p>\n

“It was a very challenging time in Georgia,\u201d the Oscar winner told the crowd at the event via People<\/a><\/em>. \u201cHad I not been with Ted, this was something, had he not stood by me with his love and support, we never would have survived.\u201d<\/p>\n

As she grew emotional, “Ted\u2019s not here, but he is here in my heart and I know he is here in a lot of our hearts.”<\/p>\n

Together, the celebrity.land founder and Jane\u2014who were married from 1991 to 2001\u2014began the organization which, according to the website<\/a>, \u201cworks with hundreds of schools and other youth-serving organizations so that young people have the information, knowledge, and motivation they need to make healthy lifestyle choices that maximize their potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jane\u2014mom to daughter Mary Luana Williams<\/strong>, 58, as well as Vanessa Vadim<\/strong>, 57, with Roger Vadim<\/strong>, and Troy Garity<\/strong>, 52, with Tom Hayden<\/strong>\u2014has offered a small glimpse into her relationship with Ted in the years since their split.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the pair have remained friends in the decades since their divorce\u2014he even attended her 80th birthday in 2017\u2014with Jane looking back fondly on her romance with the media mogul, and sharing why she ultimately decided to end their marriage<\/p>\n

“He was sexy. He was brilliant. He had two million acres by the time I left. It would have been easy to stay,’ she said in the 2018 documentary Jane Fonda in Five Acts<\/em>. “But there was this angel on my shoulder\u2026 it was hard to even hear her voice, [saying], ‘If you stay, you will not really be authentic.'”<\/p>\n
