The tragedy at Sandy Hook took place more than a decade ago, but wounds like that never heal, and a connection to the horrific shooting and country music legend Kenny Chesney was revealed this week.<\/p>\n
And, at least on Chesney\u2019s part, it is a heartwarming connection and a story of how he reached out to one family who lost their young daughter in the mass shooting back in 2012. The story was shared this week when Chesney appeared on Anderson Cooper\u2019s \u201cAll There Is\u201d podcast. <\/b><\/a><\/p>\n Cooper remembered back to the terrible event, and an interview that he did with the family of young Grace McDonnell, who was killed that day. <\/p>\n \u201cBefore that interview, I was in their kitchen and I was talking to them, and this was days after their daughter was killed, and there was a photo of you on the refrigerator,\u201d Cooper told Chesney. <\/p>\n \u201cI said to Lynn (Grace\u2019s mother), \u2018Oh, do you like Kenny Chesney?\u2019\u201d Cooper continued. \u201cHer whole face lit up, and she was just like, \u2018Ya know, Grace loved Kenny Chesney, and in fact the morning she was killed we were waiting for the bus and we were singing a Kenny Chesney song.\u201d<\/p>\n Cooper said he texted Chesney and said, \u201cHey, I just wanted you to know that you touched this family\u2019s life.<\/p>\n \u201cYou texted me right back and said you wanted to reach out to Lynn,\u201d Cooper said. \u201cYou called Lynn and spoke for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n Chesney said that after that call he became \u201creally good friends\u201d with the family.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t tell you how many shows her and Chris have come to over the years,\u201d Chesney said. \u201cThey actually brought me a piece of art that Grace had painted and gave it to me.\u201d<\/p>\n Chesney said he framed it and kept it on his tour bus for years. <\/p>\n \u201cYou know what\u2019s crazy?\u201d Chesney added. \u201cI\u2019m a very spiritual person, and I believe in people pushing people together. <\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
