Now, the show\u2019s director, Chlo\u00e9 Zhao, is hyping up her return as well as some other OG characters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><em>Buffy <\/em>is one of the<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/32-best-vampire-movies-tv-153300135.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:best vampire shows of all time;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"> <u>best vampire shows of all time<\/u><\/a>, so it was no surprise when it was announced in February that a<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/sarah-michelle-gellars-buffy-revival-205710318.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:new series was officially moving forward;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"> <u>new series was officially moving forward<\/u><\/a> at Hulu. Gellar will return as the titular Slayer in a recurring capacity, with Ryan Kiera Armstrong taking up the mantle as a new Slayer. It\u2019s unknown who else will return, but Zhao told<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/chloe-zhao-hamnet-eternals-buffy-og-characters-1236580231\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Variety;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"> <u>Variety<\/u><\/a> that fans should remember that this is not a reboot, but instead a continuation of sorts, and there are certainly plans to bring on other fan-favorites:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It is not a reboot. It\u2019s a sequel. You can never replace these characters. I would never allow that. And Sarah\u2019s back. I love my cast, the new cast. We will bring back OG characters for sure. And it is a show that bridges two generations \u2014 it\u2019s not just about the kids. I think the fandom is so important to us. We want the fandom to see themselves mirrored in the original fandom. And of course, we want new fans to join, and it\u2019s very much about both generations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A few<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/television\/2564465\/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-actors-you-forgot-were-on-the-series\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Buffy stars;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"> <u><em>Buffy <\/em><\/u><u>stars<\/u><\/a> have expressed interest in returning, and while other original cast members have not been announced, Zhao is making sure to hype up the possibility. It\u2019s only a matter of time before more OGs are announced, but at the very least, Buffy will not be the only one returning to Sunnydale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Among those<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/hope-part-buffy-star-reboot-172739593.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:who want to return is Charisma Carpenter;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"> <u>who want to return is Charisma Carpenter<\/u><\/a>, who starred in the first three seasons as Cordelia Chase before moving on to the spinoff <em>Angel<\/em>. Although Cordelia ultimately dies, characters on <em>Buffy <\/em>have been known to come back from the dead, including Buffy Summers herself. Carpenter explained earlier this year that she hopes to be involved in some fashion, and although fans are still sharing their<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/viral-tiktok-shows-buffy-vampire-192016285.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:unpopular Cordy takes;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"> <u>unpopular Cordy takes<\/u><\/a>, I know I&#8217;d love to see her return.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That being said, just because Gellar and other OGs are returning, fans don\u2019t necessarily have to<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/tv\/articles\/watch-og-buffy-vampire-slayer-231238688.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:watch the original series in order to watch the new one;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"> <u>watch the original series in order to watch the new one<\/u><\/a>. Gellar previously shared that the new show will \u201ccater to the people,\u201d but there will also be Easter eggs as the revival ushers in a whole new generation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Revivals and reboots can either be hits or misses, so it\u2019s hard to tell at this point how the <em>Buffy <\/em>series will go. It does sound like they\u2019re taking great care in making sure that it caters to a new audience while also keeping original fans interested.
