\u201cWhen Megyn Kelly said this week, \u2018Well, Epstein wasn\u2019t technically a pedophile,\u2019 because they were like 15 instead of five,\u201d Maher said. \u201cWhen that\u2019s where your defenders are going: Let\u2019s be easy on the pedophiles and not to cast dispersions on people who go out with 15-year-olds?\u201d<\/p>\n
Maher\u2019s comments were met with laughs by his guests, celebrity.land\u2019s Fareed Zakaria and podcaster Josh Barro.<\/p>\n
The former Fox News host said on a segment of The Megyn Kelly Show<\/i> that an insider on the Epstein case told her that the disgraced financier was \u201cnot a pedophile.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI do know somebody very, very close to this case who is in a position to know virtually everything,\u201d Kelly said. \u201cAnd this person has told me from the start, years and years ago, that Jeffrey Epstein, in this person\u2019s view, was not a pedophile.\u201d<\/p>\n
She continued, \u201cThis is this person\u2019s view, who was there for a lot of this, but that he was into the barely legal type. Like, he liked 15-year-old girls. I\u2019m just giving you facts that he wasn\u2019t into, like, eight-year-olds. But he liked the very young teen types that could pass for even younger than they were, but would look legal to a passerby.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maher was temporarily at a loss for words as he ended his summary of Kelly\u2019s comments. \u201cI…I don\u2019t know,\u201d Maher said. \u201cI feel like this… the people who [Trump] had in… He brought in Lauren Boebert to the Situation Room. Because they\u2019ve got a situation.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c…It\u2019s [Boebert], Nancy Mace\u2014who\u2019s been here before, and Nancy Mace is a victim of sexual abuse\u2014and Marjorie Taylor Greene,\u201c Maher continued. \u201dThree of his biggest fans politically. But, women. They understand about this stuff, like we can never. And they do not want to give [the Epstein investigation] up.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maher wasn\u2019t the only talk show host to rip into Kelly\u2019s comments this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow the hell was Megyn Kelly ever an attorney?\u201d The Daily Show\u2019s<\/i> Josh Johnson asked on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour honor, my client only engaged in diet pedophilia,\u201d he joked. \u201cMa\u2019am, everyone knows there\u2019s a big difference between a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old. But everyone also knows there is never a good reason to be talking about that difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maher added on his show that between Trump set to get \u201cpart of the blame\u201d for the shutdown, threatening SNAP benefits, and the release of more Epstein files, the president was having a tough week.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was the single worst week for the president and his administration,\u201d Maher said. \u201cHe looked like he didn\u2019t care to a lot of people whether they ate or not.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zakaria further suggested that the new Epstein trove could potentially shift the MAGA base against Trump.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor so long, it seemed as though there was nothing Trump could do that would affect his base,\u201d he said. \u201cIt seems that there\u2019s at least cracks, maybe the beginnings of some tremors.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
