The surviving members of KISS<\/a> paid tribute to their late bandmate Ace Frehley during the opening performance of their three-day KISS Kruise: Landlocked in Vegas on Friday (Nov. 14).<\/p>\n Before launching into the \u201cunmasked\u201d set, Paul Stanley shared heartfelt words about the late Spaceman, who died at age 74<\/a> in October.<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cObviously, before we get going \u2014 and we\u2019re going to have an awesome time \u2014 we just wanted to take a moment to think about about somebody who was at the foundation of this band. And we\u2019re talking about Ace,\u201d Stanley told the crowd<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe certainly had differences, but that\u2019s what family is about. Why don\u2019t we take a moment, little quiet, and think about him looking down on us \u2014 from Jendell, probably \u2014 and let\u2019s have a moment for Ace.\u201d<\/p>\n After a brief silent tribute, the audience outside Virgin Hotels chanted \u2018Ace! Ace! Ace!\u2019 as Stanley encouraged fans to hold up electric candles in honor of their former bandmate.<\/p>\n The \u201cunmasked\u201d concert marked KISS\u2019 first show since Frehley\u2019s passing on Oct. 16, and their first performance since wrapping their End of the Road Tour with a two-night stand at New York City\u2019s Madison Square Garden in December 2023. The \u201cKiss Army Storms Vegas\u201d event was first announced<\/a> in March.<\/p>\n Frehley, the band\u2019s co-founder and iconic guitarist, died suddenly last month after suffering injuries from an accidental fall.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are completely devastated and heartbroken,\u201d the musician\u2019s family said in a statement<\/a> announcing his death. \u201cIn his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth.
