George Clooney sparked headlines recently following reports that his formerly tight friendship with Prince Harry<\/a> and Meghan Markle<\/a> had cooled significantly.<\/p>\n

The A-list actor and his human rights lawyer wife, Amal Clooney, were among the high-profile attendees at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s 2018 wedding ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n

However, the 64-year-old Oscar winner has since been the focus of reports claiming he has distanced himself from the Royal couple, according to sources close to the situation.<\/p>\n

The evolution of their relationship, with Meghan, 44, and Harry, 41, reveals how their once-close friendship has reportedly grown more distant over time.<\/p>\n

The connection between Hollywood icon George and former Suits actress Meghan first came to light when he and Amal attended what many called the wedding of the year, reports the Express.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After the ceremony, the Clooneys joined the newlyweds at their private reception held at Frogmore House.<\/p>\n

But despite appearing friendly, it subsequently came to light that the Clooneys reportedly told another wedding guest that they “didn’t know” Meghan and Harry particularly well.<\/p>\n

Rachel Johnson, sister of Boris Johnson, revealed in AirMail, “There’s a story going around that while Carolyn Bartholomew, Diana’s former flatmate, was waiting for the wedding service to start, she turned to the couple alongside her and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan.<\/p>\n

“We don’t,” the Clooneys answered brightly. Although initially surprised, Meghan allegedly developed a stronger bond with human rights attorney Amal following her Royal nuptials.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Meghan and Amal have known each other for a while [and share] many interests,” a source revealed to People Magazine in 2018.<\/p>\n

“Amal has been helping Meghan settle into London life. It was a very natural friendship from day one.”<\/p>\n

During that period, Harry and Meghan allegedly flew to Lake Como, Italy, for a getaway, staying at George and Amal’s lavish holiday residence.<\/p>\n

Royal correspondent Omid Scobie has also indicated that Harry and the Hollywood star connected through their mutual enthusiasm for motorcycles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“George and Harry have a shared passion for motorcycles and checked out George’s collection, and they also played basketball together,” Scobie revealed.<\/p>\n

George himself discussed his relationship with the Sussexes in 2019, telling MailOnline that they’ve shared frequent dinner gatherings.<\/p>\n

“We live not too far from one another and we have dinners and stuff and we’re friends with them for all the reasons that you’re friends with anybody,” the actor acknowledged. “They’re just really nice, fun, kind people. They’re a very loving couple, and they’re going to be great parents.”<\/p>\n

He also stood up for Meghan amid the intense press attention during a Good Morning Britain segment on ITV, describing the coverage she faced after her Royal marriage as “a little unjust” and “unfair”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During the same broadcast, he praised Meghan as a “really kind and smart and intelligent young woman”. Last year, rumors that George’s bond with the couple had suddenly dissolved left some Royal followers surprised.<\/p>\n

In 2023, it was reported that the Clooneys are now “more linked to King Charles”, even showing up at a Prince’s Trust event in London in May, despite the supposed frostiness between Harry and his father after their decision to step back as senior royals in 2020.<\/p>\n
