One sold-out Diane Keaton memorial screening in Santa Monica went without its biggest draw.<\/p>\n

Sunday night, Something\u2019s Gotta Give<\/em> director Nancy Meyers cancelled a long-awaited public appearance at the last minute. She was set to moderate a discussion on the film. Meyers has not appeared in public since Keaton died on October 11<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The group running the screen, American Cinematheque, sent out a last-minute notice to viewers. The showing took place at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.<\/p>\n

Something\u2019s Gotta Give<\/em>, starring Keaton as a woman caught in a love triangle between two men played by Jack Nicholson and Keanu Reeves, is widely considered one of the best rom-coms ever made. Keaton was nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars when the movie came out in 2003.<\/p>\n

Upon Keaton\u2019s passing, Meyers released a lengthy tribute statement to Keaton on her Instagram page.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a woman, I lost a friend of almost 40 years \u2013 at times over those years, she felt like a sister because we shared so many truly memorable experiences. As a filmmaker, I\u2019ve lost a connection with an actress that one can only dream of,\u201d she wrote. \u201cWe all search for that someone who really gets us, right? Well, with Diane, I believe we mutually had that. I always felt she really got me so writing for her made me better because I felt so secure in her hands.\u201d<\/p>\n

She acknowledged that Keaton wasn\u2019t funny in just her films, either, mentioning Keaton\u2019s classic roles in films from directors like Warren Beatty and Woody Allen.<\/p>\n

\u201cDiane did exactly the same for them because that is what she does. She goes deep. And I know those who have worked with her know what I know\u2026 she made everything better,\u201d she said. \u201cShe was like nobody ever, she was born to be a movie star, her laugh could make your day and for me, knowing her and working with her \u2014 changed my life. Thank you Di. I\u2019ll miss you forever.\u201d<\/p>\n
