Bridget Jones has joined Harry Potter, Mary Poppins<\/a> and Paddington<\/a> as permanent residents of London<\/a>‘s famed Leicester Square<\/a>.<\/p>\n A new bronze statue of the romantic comedy heroine was unveiled Monday to mark 25 years since the release of the first \u201cBridget Jones\u201d film.<\/a><\/p>\n Actor Ren\u00e9e Zellweger, who has played the titular character four times since the first Bridget Jones’ Diary<\/a> was released on big screens in 2001, attended the unveiling along with author Helen Fielding<\/a>, whose books inspired the films<\/a>.<\/p>\n The statue, which depicts Zellweger dressed in a mini skirt and clutching a diary and a pen, is the newest addition to the \u201cScenes in the Square\u201d trail in Leicester Square<\/a>, the home of numerous international film premieres.<\/p>\n The new Bridget Jones statue in Leicester Square (Invision)<\/p>\n The attraction, launched in 2020 to celebrate a century of cinema, also features statues of Mr Bean, Bugs Bunny, Laurel and Hardy<\/a>, Batman<\/a> and Wonder Woman<\/a>.<\/p>\n Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, the fourth film in the franchise, was released earlier this year.<\/p>\n The latest film sees Bridget Jones<\/a> navigate \u201clife as a widow and single mom with the help of her family, friends, and former lover Daniel. Back to work and on the dating apps<\/a>, following the death of her husband and father of her children, Mark Darcy.<\/p>\n Uproar over the death of Colin Firth<\/a>\u2019s Mark Darcy made front page news when Fielding\u2019s novel was published in 2013.
