Scout Willis<\/a> makes music to make out to. At least, that\u2019s the effect she hopes her latest single, \u201cIt Ain\u2019t Nothing,\u201d will have on fans. \u201cPeople aren\u2019t kissing enough,\u201d she tells NYLON over the phone. \u201cI want to bring back making out at parties.\u201d<\/p>\n Though Willis<\/a> (daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore<\/a>) has had a lifelong obsession with music \u2014 she tells a story of checking out every single band listed in the NYLON Music Issue<\/a> she owned when she was 15 \u2014 she hasn\u2019t always been open to the idea of being a musician. \u201cWith many things that are so close to our heart and special, there can be moments of fear or running away from it,\u201d she says. \u201cI think I was in a bit of an avoidant relationship with music because it\u2019s so real and so special to me.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere was a big moment \u2014 I was in this spiritual psychology class, and I had this epiphany where I realized, \u2018Oh, this is the closest thing to my heart. My connection to God, to a higher power, is me writing music.\u2019 And there was this unconscious story running, that if I were to finally give it everything I had and still feel lacking or to be found wanting, then it would feel like I was dying.\u201d Naming those fears finally helped Willis dismantle her mental blocks for good, clearing the path to get straight to work on what would become her debut album, Scout LaRue Willis<\/a>, <\/em>in 2020. Five years later, she can\u2019t imagine doing anything else. \u201cI\u2019ll make music every day for the rest of my life, because if I didn\u2019t, I would die,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n Willis returned with the up-tempo anthem \u201cBlame Me<\/a>\u201d in September, which she followed up with the sultry, evocative, and titillating \u201cIt Ain\u2019t Nothing<\/a>\u201d on Nov. 14<\/a>. In honor of the track\u2019s release (and the steamy music video starring Gossip Girl<\/a><\/em> alum Thomas Doherty), we caught up with the singer-songwriter to talk about the inspiration behind the new song, her upcoming album, her favorite affirmations, and working with Doherty.<\/p>\n
