The first trailer for Disney\u2019s upcoming live-action Moana<\/a> trailer has dropped.<\/p>\n Catherine Laga\u02bbaia plays the title character, taking over from Auli\u02bbi Cravalho, who voices the character in the animated films. Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson<\/a> reprises his role of Maui from the animated films for live action<\/p>\n As Disney notes, the new trailer, \u201cprovides a first look at the live-action adventure, introducing audiences to the majestic island and vibrant people of Motunui; the shapeshifting demigod Maui; the intimidating yet adorable tribe of Kakamora; and Laga\u02bbaia as wayfinder Moana, who sings the powerful line \u2018I Am Moana.’\u201d<\/p>\n The cast also includes John Tui as Moana\u2019s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as Moana\u2019s mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as Moana\u2019s Gramma Tala.<\/p>\n Per the official logline, \u201cMoana (Laga\u02bbaia) answers the Ocean\u2019s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui (Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.\u201d<\/p>\n The film is directed by Thomas Kali and produced by Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Executive producers are Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth and Cravalho.<\/p>\n The film hits theaters on July 10, 2026.
