The rumors started to spread rampantly when Ethan Slater was absent from Ariana Grande\u2019s appearance at the MTV VMAs. According to celebrity gossip source Rob Shuter and his SubStack #ShuterScoop<\/a>, his absence meant more than the eyes sees. \u201cThey\u2019re holding on for the film,\u201d a close friend revealed. \u201cThe studio doesn\u2019t want breakup headlines overshadowing\u00a0Wicked Part Two<\/em>. They even posted each other\u2019s red carpet moments<\/a> on their Instagram stories leading up to the film\u2019s premiere.<\/p>\n A source told People<\/a><\/em> on Nov. 12, 2025: \u201cThey both have a lot going on, but their relationship is the real deal. They\u2019re incredibly supportive of each other\u2019s careers and so excited for everyone to see their new film.\u201d<\/p>\n After divorcing their respective spouses, the two often opt to not go public about their romances. In an interview with The New York Times<\/a><\/em>, Ariana Grande commented on the decision. \u201cI\u2019ve never felt this connected to my art or inspired, and that\u2019s just been such a tremendous gift. It\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, I don\u2019t actually have to take on those things that were projected onto me. I can focus on my art and that can be a separate entity.\u2019 But I had to give myself the permission to think that.\u201d<\/p>\n The two often go to great lengths to keep their relationship hidden from the public. A source told The Sun<\/a><\/em> that the two even had separate hotel suites to avoid attention. \u201cThey were both at the \u00adLeicester Square premiere\u00a0and the \u00adafter-party at Brasserie Zedel but made sure they weren\u2019t seen together,\u201d the source revealed. \u201cObviously it fuels the \u00adspeculation around them but they don\u2019t want their relationship to play out in public. When Ariana left the after-party, she went back to her hotel suite. Not long after, Ethan was taken there and went up to see Ariana to spend time with her.<\/p>\n The source concluded, \u201cThey are aware of what is being said and it\u2019s not easy for them but they\u2019re doing the best they can to snatch some quiet moments when no one is watching.\u201d<\/p>\n Slater made a rare comment about their relationship, telling\u00a0GQ<\/em><\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m just really, really proud of Ari and the work she\u2019s done on this. She\u2019s poured herself into it.
