The annual event, now in its 29th year, features “synths, solos and shameless nostalgia,” designed to indulge “questionable fashion, and crowd-sourced emotional purging,” according to a news release. The event will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, at\u00a0Cafe Nine<\/a> in New Haven and will feature “a glorious onslaught of\u00a0 ’80s cover songs,” according to the release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Musician Dean Falcone<\/a>, who organizes the annual\u00a0event, said it emerged some decades ago when musician friends came home for the holidays and began jamming.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“A lot of my friends moved to L.A. or Boston but we would try to get together for the holidays,” he said. Every year, the group picks a theme, or a band, like A-Ha or The Replacements, and plays its cover songs. “It’s meant to be fun, it’s a loose night,” he said. “We try to do stuff that people know.” This year, the event is scheduled to focus on the 1980s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Falcone performs around the New Haven area. He also produces and composes music for films, including “Pizza: A Love Story<\/a>.”\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“I want people to have a place to go on the day before Thanksgiving just to indulge,” said Falcone, who\u00a0worked at Cutler’s Records and Tapes in New Haven for 30 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
