Disney has released the first trailer<\/a> for its live-action reimagining of \u201cMoana,\u201d which offers audiences a sweeping look at Catherine Laga\u02bbaia taking on the role of the title character.<\/p>\n

Dwayne Johnson will continue his role as Maui, the shape-shifting demigod who aids Moana on her journey. The trailer also highlights the island of Motunui, the Kakamora tribe and the anthem \u201cI Am Moana,\u201d sung by Laga\u02bbaia.<\/p>\n

Laga\u02bbaia, a 17-year-old newcomer from Sydney<\/a>, has Samoan heritage and said she\u2019s happy to represent Pacific Island cultures in the movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m honored to celebrate Samoa and all Pacific Island peoples and to represent young girls who look like me,\u201d she said in a statement.<\/p>\n
